I'll take the under at 20 if you want as well...but don't want to overstep the guy who threw it out there initially.
I'll give conquistador a day or two to respond and if he doesn't respond by Saturday night and you are willing, we can compromise on 16. 15 or less, I win and you put in $20, 17 or more you win and I put in $20, 16 we both put in $20. I'll even give you an out in so far if he is disabled for 15+ days or STARTS the season in the minors, you can choose to negate the bet with no hard feelings.
Sounds good to me, be fun to follow and a guaranteed tipjar Kalaid if I don't have a bet here then I'll take yours
I can't tell if these crazies picking Cosart to win 16 games are from League City, hate the Astros or have some inside information on Cosart developing alternative pitches to his fastball and curveball. He's a contact pitcher who is likely never going to win more than 15 games. I definitely don't see it happening next year. It's not as if the Marlins have an outstanding lineup to win these games for him, although their bullpen is decent.
RIP. Great reference. I didn't mean to imply that Miami has a great bullpen, just that it is great in comparison to the Astros. Steve Cishek, AJ Ramos, Chris Hatcher, Bryan Morris and Mike Dunn would all crack our bullpen. I don't know if Cosart is going to be the 4th or 5th SP for the Marlins moving forward, but his Ws may go up by facing crappier opposing SPs. We will see.
For comparison, Jose Fernandez and his 2.19 ERA last year had 12 wins with the Marlins. This year, they have no pitcher anywhere close to being on pace for 15 wins, though if healthy, Fernandez was on pace (4 wins in 8 starts). Their best pitcher this year, Henderson Alvarez, has a 2.48 ERA and has 8 wins in 22 starts.
In the entire NL last year, there were 2 pitchers that won more than 16 games. 3 more won 16, and 4 more won 15.
Well, we gave up a #4 (with fading potential of being a #3) pitcher and 2 most likely utility players (although I've always been a fan of Wates and have longed for him to come up to the bigs) for 2 potential starters with pretty high upside. I really dislike Moran though. I don't think he'll ever hit for the power that a 3B needs to supply. Give me Dominguez and his 20-25 home runs and gold glove defense. I'll take the low OBP and batting average.
He dont have to hit a ton of homers as a 3rd baseman to be a good major league player for us. Im sure plenty of Astros fans wouldnt mind a Casey McGehee on this team right now. That's who i can see him becoming.
We need Moran to be a .300+ hitter with low K's for sure, especially he isn't going to hit for much power. We have a lack of guys who can hit for average outside of Altuve. Springer, Singleton, Castro, Dominguez all have power potential but are high K/low avg guys.
It's a tipjar bet, we should be tipping there anyway. Not from League City, and sure as heck wouldn't spend as much time on this forum as I do if I had any hatred for the Astros, who are far and away my favorite sports team
I guess just another Cosart start. Fluke year last year, overrated, perhaps but still would have liked to see him stay (& still rooting for the League City kid!) Oh well. (Edit: Don't know if it's true or not, but if he was the one or one of the players complaining about Appel, lame to say the least.)
again, the marlins were swindled, all they needed was to log on to clutchfans to see that they were getting hoodwinked. get cosart has tapped his potential at 24, he'll never get any better and it is all downhill from here.
