Of course Houston has a chance to win the NBA title if:

    Lakers
Shaq, becomes an academy award winning actor after having played the role of Shaq in "Can you Dig it" the critically acclaimed filmography of Shaq's epic adventures on and off the court.

    Spurs
Duncan sustains a knee injury and goes back home to the Virgin Islands where he lays in a broken down wooden boat fishing all day and basks in the warm sun rays not having a care in the world about the rest of the world.

    Dallas
Dirk shaves his head and becomes a white supremist
Nash joins the MLS where his hair isn't an issue
Van Exel is abducted by his alien family, soon to find out E.T. is his distant cousin.

    Kings
The entire Kings team gets the munchies and robs a convenient store, last seen laughing while carrying a box load of Funions and dip headed to a local 24 hour restaurant.

    Portland
Wallace and Patterson become saints, spread their wealth and love to the less unfortunate soles and co-author a book titled ”I was a Scared Child in a Man’s Body”.

True, but that can be said of every team in the West particularly Denver. If they manage to steal a few games from the Rockets, Seattle & Phoenix, then things will REALLY get interesting.

It's called being a rockets fan. Maybe you need to find a new board if you can't handle that.

I agree. I just pray they don't run the offense Riley's using in Miami. That would spell disaster for them in this division.

I'm sticking to my forecast of 48-52 but I'd take 55 wins in a heartbeat.

Do y'all think that Les is expecting us to contend? I hope not......"greatest team ever assembled"....he should be thinking patience and takes time...
THIS YEAR. Nope. No chance......unless some injuries happen....or something miraculous..which is unlikely.
    BUT IN THREE YEARS.
WHEN EVERYONE IS AT THEIR PEAK.
We shall be one of the top teams in the NBA.
    We should win the NBA.
And if nobody gets better....and Shaq retires.....Yao will be the MOST DOMINANT center by then.
And we shall go for a THREEPEAT...back to back to back rings.
I think we can do it!
Of course....if we get Elton Brand this year by giving up Mobley and Griffin and some crap.....then we could win it earlier!

Depends on how quickly the players can learn. I believe that JVG is the man to bring the right attitude & system to the team so we can finally play some dependable team ball.

From an extremely optimistic outlook, we can contend for championship this year if a) Lakers just go down and never get back up again, b) Spurs or mavs or other powerhouse west team does not get Jason Kidd, c) everybody stay healthy and work as a team

    Go rockets. Go Nets

There is a time when I think all fans need a dose of realism. If you think Yao is gonna perform at his potential then you're dellusional. I don't expect that @ least couple of years from now. Even lets assume he does, a team with almost no chemistry doesn't just become the best team in the league. Although the team did under-perform last season, but how many teams have you seen go from 4 straight lottery seasons to title shots (No, King Lebron and his might Cavs aren't gonna do it either)? An overly optimistic goal next season is 5th-6th seed in the WC with a second round exit. A realistic goal is 7th-8th with a first round exit.

Once again, a dose of realism. Any team in the league can beat any other team. We can beat those teams listed above. However, any of those teams listed above can routinely thrash us.
