People are so shell shocked from Morey's failures this off season that they want his guy as a backup? In the ESPN Real Plus Minus he is ranked up in the same ball park as Rivers, Canaan, Irving, Brooks, Calderon and Jimmer on the last page of the defensive rankings.

He is still better than the other PG's guards available to us, apart from Beverely. That is how weak we are at the 1 spot.

You should look at this as a stop gap move.

"Sessions says he is exploring all of his possibilities during this free agency as he looks to sign a deal with one of the 32 NBA teams in need of a point guard."

    32 nba teams?
    really?
i'm not so sure i want to sign him for the minimum

We need a back up big man over 6'9" before we sign a 4th PG and 6th guard overall.

He can play the 1 or 2... The Smith signing was pretty stupid.

We can just cut Ish if we need the roster spot.

Great addition, nice veteran unproven player to teach our unproven role players.

As of now he is a better option than both Ish and Isiah. We need a reliable back up.

He was worse than Jeremy Lin at shooting 3's. Let that sink in a bit. He's incredibly redundant with Harden on the floor, as his biggest asset is his penetration to the basket. I'd rather have Canaan get more burn.

From Lin to Sessions..that would be a downgrade at the 1 spot. Bosh did screwed the Rockets over.

I get that PG is a problem especially if Beverley gets hurt. I'm pissed because Morey should've had a replacement ready as soon as he decided to trade Lin. He was a key member of the rotation(5th in minutes and points, 3rd in assists).

Now that other teams know we need a PG we're probably going to have to overpay to get a good quality player or settle for guys like Ish Smith and Sessions.

Going after a guy like Sessions could be a sign that the Rockets don't have faith in Canaan and Johnson.

If Sessions is signed at this point with Ish already here, you can take is as a very clear indicator that probably both Bev and Canaan will be traded and the deal is already agreed upon.

And why should they? D-league and summer league performances are absolutely useless. Example, Luke Harangody beasted the summer league a couple of years ago and is out of the league now. Neither have proved any ability to perform at a high enough level to crack our rotation at the nba level. Sessions has. We are are a contending team, you can't leave holes like that in your roster if were expected to be a quality team and improve over last year.

I think you're thinking too much... Johnson looks like he's D-league bound and another year in the D-League wouldn't hurt Canaan.

We are not a contending team.

Edit: Oops, posted in the wrong thread.

About Sessions: I don't think he's better than Lin. Worse 3 point shooter. Also worse defender as far as I can tell--haven't watched a lot of MIL and CHA games, but when he was with the Lakers the guy was a total matador defensively; and his defensive adjusted +/- type stats continue to be far below average during each and every one of the last few seasons while Lin's are approximately neutral.

However, the Sessions/Lin comparison is not relevant. Lin is gone already, so it's not like we are choosing between the two. The question really is Sessions vs. opportunity cost-- i.e., who else are you gonna sign with that cap exception that you'd otherwise use on Sessions? Not sure there are many better candidates right now given the Rockets' desire to maintain flexibility and not hand out long-term salaries.

Sessions at least has some useful skills-- penetration, drawing fouls-- that not too many NBA players, let alone those available on short term cheap contracts, have.
