I trust cyberx as an obvious inside source, although I don't take his responses as the end-all be-all. Dragic might be beyond our reach. Not everyone will be. No way Morey is done. He might have to let everything sit on ice a bit before making another move (recently-acquired players can't be traded for two months and such), which could make the halls of Toyota Center rather quiet. Also, I think our ownership of that Pelicans' 2015 pick eludes him, speaking of assets other teams might want. Although some of us here might overvalue it a bit, remember how hardup teams are for halfway decent first rounders. Plus our Trade Exception, which could alleviate another team's financial burden.
In thinking about making a trade with Phoenix people need to accurately gauge who the Suns are as buyers for the assets that the Rockets are selling. I think the biggest thing is most fans w/ grand trade ideas think conceptually about the value of the Rockets assets without considering individual buyers. Given the fact of where the Suns are with their assets, it makes the Rockets with their assets an odd fit to make a trade. The value of the Rockets assets theoretically is not equal to the value to the individual buyer. I do not have high hopes of striking a deal of any sort with Phoenix while they are sitting on the draft picks that they have.
Not sure if this really belongs in this thread but at this point it seems anything goes: with the rumor that the wolves want to get rid of JJ Barea or Kev Martin, this seems like a prime opportunity for Morey to jump in as the 3rd team in the deal and take on Barea in order to get a draft pick or other sweeteners, too. Then could use the (assuming) 1st round pick from trade and the NOLA 1st to get a 3rd star. Plus, Barea could be a nice fit at backup PG.
if mcdonough's old boss has taught me nothing else, you can't have enough draft picks seems to be it.
Three way trades happen when two buyer who have high interest in each others assets/players need another asset from a 3rd party to make everyone happy. In any trade involving Phoenix & whoever else, what do the Rockets have that wouldn't be on the table in a deal involving Phoenix that the need the Rockets involved in to get? Somebody in the deal NEEDS something you have, and that the 3rd party buyer doesn't have. I see the Rockets getting a deal done with teams in multiple deals, but given the duplication of assets & maybe even higher value coming from Phoenix, I see them as a tough partner to trade with even in a 3 way.
I like the idea of facilitating other trades to gain assets, but... Barea is averaging 8 ppg on 38% shooting in 19 mpg. I'll take my chances with Canaan/Smith/Johnson.
The suns definitely seem to like gathering picks. The Minnesota pick is top 12 protected for 15 and 16, and then turns into 2 2nds. No way they're getting a 1st
Forget it, guys. He's gone. Just a cyberx tease. Looks like he has a real job. He was here barely enough for treeman to get a three-quarter chub.
@Probballdraft: As Cavs continue to discuss Love trade the search for a rim protector continues. Not looking for a star just need a Birdman or Anthony type. Does Dmo count as a rim protector?
