I wanna play another RPG... I recently finished Xenogears and the english translation of Radical Dreamers, and I'm just still in an RPG-type mood. I've narrowed it down to two possibilities: Suikoden III or Xenosaga. I don't wanna buy both, because then I'll end up playing both simultaneously, and I hate it when I do that. Help me out.
Yeah, did that already... got a 10.45%... ...And I bet about half my score came from "defeated all Final Fantasy games."
Xenosaga utterly blows compared to Xenogears, and considering you just finished the latter, you'll be beyond dissapointed. Suikoden III is okay, I'm not sure if it's really worth the purchase. I'd say go for FFX, although chances are you've already played it. Otherwise I say go for another regular Playstation RPG, and there are numerous good ones, many of which you probably haven't played.
I don't think Xenosaga is THAT bad, but like Apollo said it isn't even close to Xenogears. IMO, this is because the series's's's's's's's (is that right?) story is spread into 6 games, I think, instead of one great big game. I think the series together may be great, but I don't know if it is good to pay 6x$50 plus new consoles if they go there and the long wait in between. I STILL haven't been able to play Suikoden III, so I can't help you there.
Dark Cloud 2 got pretty solid reviews. So did Xenosaga, though as someone said its nowhere near Xenogears. However, EB has Xenosaga for 30 bucks right now. You could look for some old PS1 titles: StarOcean, Vagrant Story, Breath of Fire.....
Thanks a ton for the input guys, seriously. If you guys think I'll be disappointed with Xenosaga after just finishing Xenogears, then I suppose I'll go with Suikoden III... Still, I don't need to run out and get it now. I had forgotten about Dark Cloud 2, is that really RPG-like? A few sites are categorizing it as "adventure." Is there anyone who's played Dark Cloud 2 who thinks I should get it instead of Suikoden? (I do love the cel-shaded look) As for Playstation 1 suggestions, I've played all Final Fantasys (including FFX on PS2), Chrono Cross, Chrono Trigger, and all the King's Fields. I can't stand playing games with graphics below the level of Chrono Trigger, and I'm a little hesitant to try Vagrant Story because by the looks of it the environments are really bland. So I'll probably get Suikoden III, but if you guys can suggest any PS1 RPGs I just have to play, go ahead and let me know.
A few months ago Suikoden 3 had a few negative reviews on this board...they caused me not to bother with purchasing the game. Take that however you like...
I'd only say Suikoden III if you have already beaten the first 2. Even then you might be slightly disappointed compared to Suikoden II. I am in chapter 8 in Dark Cloud 2, and I've had a blast. It's much better than the first one, and the battle system is pretty good. I would definately say it is an action RPG, and not an "adventure" type game. You can spend a ton of time customizing and upgrading weapons, fishing and golfing. It has a solid 80 hours just to get through the game, and up to 200 if you try to collect all the medals. B
suikoden III is crap compared to the first two. if you can manage to actually find the first two suikodens, they are amazing. the third one is very good in my opinion....but not as good as the first two. also, it is a lot different then the last two, which kind of sucks. i mean, the core parts of the game and stuff like that are in there, but there aren't a lot of old characters from the past game. overall though, i enjoyed suikoden a whole lot. i think you should go with that.
