Here is the interview Van Gundy did here for all of us NYC people to hear. Let me tell you that after the interview, Knick fans just went ballistic all over the ownership and the GM for driving out Van Gundy. Most called and hoped that he would win some rings in Houston so that the Knicks can see what its like to actually rebuild through the draft. Many fans here are tired of the Knicks buying players or overpaying for them instead of just scrapping the team and just starting from scratch. I guess filling up MSG is better than actually winning. Anywhere, you need Real Player to hear it. Enjoy and of course....comments would be appreciated. Van Gundy Rules!
' Maybe Patrick got him to check out some of the clubs. Seriously, very nice interview. Thanks for the link, Almu. One observation of his I noted was the Rockets' poor perimeter shooting. I wonder how he'll try to improve it? Signing Posey (for a reasonable amount) may not necessarily be a given, despite people thinking Van Gundy will like his game.
the problem is that you set the bar too high! dont forget us out-of-towners next season. the rudy t show will now be known as what???..."the jeff vg show?"
(1) Who knows whether JVG wants/is required to do a weekly show. Anyone know if he did a call-in show during the years in NYC? (2) If he does, I haven't decided if I'm going to make an effort to tune in weekly, much less take the time to do the on-line thing...
well at least he recognizes our biggest fault currently, the inability to consistently hit from the outside. i would say the 2nd biggest problem is letting players develop, but yao and eg will do that just by getting older and steve and cuttino will continue to get experience. perimeter shooting doesn't just show up b/c you get older or get more experience, it has to be acquired or somehow taught (they seemed to teach posey to shoot a little, though it may have just been a 3 week hot streak, who knows). we were absolutely deadly when the outside shots were falling, now it just has to happen consistently. now to either design an offense where shooting isn't at a premium (is there an offense where that isn't true?) or get some shooters w/o sacrificing too much defensively, though i believe defensive liabilities can be masked by a maturing and more inside dominant tandem of eg and yao or zones. cuttino is the only guy right now who plays D and hits outside shots. that's not enough.
Just a couple notes to the hosts of this show: 1. His surname is YAO, not MING. Try reading a media guide. 2. The one guy tells Van Gundy what he needs to do with the team and says, "That's your first assignment." Uh, thanks, boss. You are a TALK SHOW HOST, not a coach. Good stuff from VG. I just hate when the hosts feel the need to interject themselves into the story.
