I misread the question, the answer is : the mavs would be favored in a 7 game series. The rockets took a step back this offseason and still have a nonexistent bench.
Dallas defense is zero. Took a big step backward at PG. Three-point shooting drops wayyyyyy off. Tyson Chandler had fewer block than T. Jones (per 36) last season. Last time he played over 66 games was 2010-2011. Parsons is not that big of an upgrade. I don't think Dallas improved their rotation.
T. Chandler slipped noticeably last year. Worst year since he was in Charlotte (wait...he played for Charlotte? ). If Dallas only gets 55 games of a diminished chandler I don't see how the make the playoffs barring epic years from everyone else.
T. Chandler is a downgrade from Dalembert! Let the numbers continue. . . . (per 36 min in 2013-2014) T. Chandler blocks: 1.4 Dalembert blocks: 2.1 T. Chandler rebounds: 11.5 Dalembert rebounds: 12.1 T. Chandler points: 10.4 Dalembert points: 11.8 T. Chandler TO: 1.5 Dalembert TO: 2.0 T Chandler games: 55 Dalembert games: 80
Let's see.. Beverly Felton HOU Harden Monta HOU Ariza Parsons DAL Jones Dirk DAL Howard Chandler HOU Bench: DAL Coach: DAL We clearly have 3 of the 5 starting positions won, but Monta is the X factor, if he gets going, that titls the balance. I'm going to be realistic. As of right now, IMO, dallas has a more blanced team when it comes to Coaching and Bench. Well, here's to hoping Howard and Harden combo is simply too much and all our younger players take that next step or this is a toss up.
HOuston is better, but the Mavericks are going to have more motivation to prove their the better team. As long as HOuston doesn't play scared or intimidated and expect themselves to be a target in these important games, they should be fine and hopefully up for the challenge.
I disagree on the Ariza Parsons matchup. Comparing them in the abstract is one thing. The times they played each other are inconclusive. http://www.hoopsstats.com/basketbal...ers/chandler-parsons/comparison/14/10/160/425
If u believe this offseason hype, then: Improved Dallas is 7th seed from the 8th seed before & Houston a 5-6th seed.... So we still better. Personally , i think the Rocket can clinch a3rd seed easily
It really is hard to say. The thing with Dallas is that they do not have strong individual defensive players but Carlisle has always incorporated a strong team defensive strategy that has been able to mask it. Carlisle makes Dallas play team defense which is very effective. If we can get a good defensive assistant coach then we can be a very good team. If we can actually pick up either bledsoe or Dragic, we will be the best team in the west.
Rockets are still better on paper, and that's before they've used any of their TPEs. But the Mavericks (like the Grizzlies) are one of those teams that are perennially underestimated. They usually look better on court than they do on paper, which is a credit to their coaching staff. Almost every year, the Mavericks finish at least 1 or 2 spots higher than preseason projections. Remember, that was a team that just barely missed the playoffs with O.J. Mayo as their 2nd best player. Rick Carlisle should've been awarded coach of the year based on that feat alone.
The Mavs have 2 starters off a terrible NY Knick team that could not compete in the East last year. They have some of the NBAs worst defenders at the 1,2,3, and 4 spots! Who slows down high scoring wings on Dallas? Monta (all 6'3 185lbs of him)? Parsons (Mr High Max Franchise Player)? Please! Who the hell does Dirk guard? What point guards are being slowed down by Fatboy Felton? And they were the 8th seed last year...barely made the playoffs. Carlisle had a good defensive gameplan to against San Antonio. That is it..don't overrate Dallas. This thread is silly. Lock it up
I think Dallas will be fighting for the 8th seed again. The only reason is their coach. Houston should be about the same also last year because the experience of playing will be there.
Yep, that trade with the Knicks is worth examining. Maybe Phil Jackson isn't so dumb. It was said that Carmelo liked the Jose Calderon move, and maybe it was true. Calderon hit 129 3's more that Raymond Felton last season. In other words, Felton 3's + Parsons 3's = Calderon's 3's +1 Dalembert was about equal to T. Chandler last season, but was much healthier. The last time T. Chandler played in 80 games was 2004-2005.
Actually devin will probably be finishing games for us. We will miss calderoni shooting but the reason he was moved was because he was pretty pathetic defensively. Mthe Mavs didn't feel they could exist with jose/monta in the back court. Ending team will probably be Ty, dirk, cp, monta, devin. Not a great shooting three bunch. Bench for most of the game will be devin ( Felton will start probably at the beginning of 1st,3rd unless he shows something) , Jefferson, jae crowder, dirk, who knows center wise. Probably the Houston kid. Something like that.
obviously hes hittin it, which i see alot of white guys doing now days to these loney black chicks... mo puzzy
Yep..bottom line is despite the hype Dallas is actually worse. Marion made their defense functional. Vince Carter had a great season off the bench shooting. Felton, Monta, and Parsons are not dead eye shooters. Part of what made Monta good last year is Calderon and Vince spaced the floor for him and Dirk. Parsons and Felton are not good shooters so there will be more bodies in the paint when he drives. This myth that Dallas got better and is better than the Rockets is comical. People need to stop listening to propaganda and look at the facts. The Allas Mavericks (no D) are not even playoff caliber in the West.
And Fatboy Felton D is better? Lmao..the Knicks were a train wreck (in the East) last year and Felton/Chandler were probably the 2 biggest reasons. Lol at Dallas considering this an "upgrade"...please!
They are not making the playoffs. It's a moot point. their defense is so terrible they won't win a thing. Extremely poor defense at 1-4 positions with Chandler fading fast. Meanwhile we now have elite defense at 1, 2 or 3 (whoever Ariza guards), and at the 5. Dallas is not even in the same tier of teams as us.
