Not sure if these have been posted already, but in case someone missed them: High school mix tape: 360 dunk from Orlando Summer League:
Am I the only one that doesn't see any PG ability in him whatsoever? I don't think he's a combo guard in the vein of Bobby Jackson or Jason Terry. I'm seeing maybe George Hill.
If Johnson believes the Rockets are offering him another Parsons-like contract (where he is the most underpaid player in the league), what recourse does he have? Is he forbidden from signing with another team?
He's a second round pick, so I believe his only other recourse is to go overseas or stop playing pro ball and wait for his rights to expire. Frankly, I doubt he or most other Rockets second round picks think of it like that. The contracts we offer include a lot of guaranteed money relative to what other teams offer, but they include the team options as the payoff if you pan out. For most second round picks, who won't make it in the NBA past their first contract, it is a pretty good deal.
Could the Rockets offer 5 years guaranteed at the minimum, and Johnson is forced to take it or else not play in the NBA?
So you watched his SL vids and you didn't see the: 1. Side penetration with kick out to perimeter for open 3 2. Flip pass to corner perimeter (tipped but caught and probably intercepted in NBA pace) 3. Beautiful outlet pass for a fast break dunk 4. Bounce pass (slightly late and probably intercepted in NBA pace) 5. A few tap passes here and there that were on point He has above average vision, that much is clear. He does need to pass faster and ahead of the target though to succeed as a passer in the NBA.
Lol. The Rockets sign second rounders to non Parsons style contracts all the time. It's a good deal for a second rounder (not named Chandler Parsons) since the last second rounder to end up a max player was Gilbert Arenas. If he wants a regular second round deal I'm sure Morey won't have issue with it.
He has great upside but unfortunately I think he's going to be a piece in a trade. Especially if Phoenix is involved.
Why should I believe in Nick Johnson? What makes people think he will get ANY run on the Rockets this year? Let me know what you've seen from him in college or summer league that makes you think he can be a good NBA player.
If you watched Summer League, you will see, in Orlando, he was the ONLY player doing anything including his triple double. He was playing both the 1 and 2. In Vegas, he is playing the 2...and doing a great job moving the ball and creating a shot not only for himself but others...he has a calmness to him...his defense is very very good. Just watch the games...and you will see why people are high on him
Nick Johnson is not better than and probably won't be better than Payton... I'm not comparing the two. I'm saying Payton is day one NBA talent and that's the type of talent Nick will have to face. Not necessarily the "burger flippers" that he's been clowning on in the SL games. And Parsons and Leonard are terrible examples because neither one is a 6-3 tweaner. As I've already said _ I like Nick and I think he will end up being a good player for us. I'm just not convinced he'll be much help at the start of the season (although I hope he can). Just my opinion and we'll find out when the season starts. Plus we know how McHale is with rookies.
Does it really matter what you, I or everybody believes? Believing in something does not necessarily mean that it will be true. Results are what matters and only after the regular season will we be able to make that assessment.
I think Nick Johnson has a chance of seeing PT this season. I'm not sure who he pushes out of the rotation, but he has really impressed me and he seems to get better with every game.
