This article suggests we were discussing Gentile but then moved onto Kostas.

What does this mean for his prospect of joining Houston in future seasons?

that's funny, because that's what I just did with the entire Rockets offseason.

It doesn't mean anything and he will be more likely to do so as his buyout goes down in the future.

Seems like he can shoot the ball efficiently. I can only hope his defense is just as impressive.

Yeah his buy out this year was 1.1 million euros, and next year it is only 500k euros. Rumors were saying Rockets would put 600k tops to pay for his buyout, and since the Rox and Niko couldn't agree on a solution this year, he will just stay and play one more year in Europe before he potentially joins us next year.

Well, we can only put a maximum of $600k towards the buyout. The rest has to come out of his pocket. We can I believe pay most of his first year salary as a signing bonus to ease the pain of doing that, but apparently $3m or however much he'd make after paying that was not enough to get him to come over.

It seems the max offer from the Rockets was 2.45 M per year, for 2 years.

Most likely, it was the Biannual Exception amount ($2.077 million next season, $2.17 million in 2015-16), plus up to the $600,000 max allowable buyout amount that wouldn't count against the cap.

That sounds about right to me. The Rockets likely didn't want to dip into their MLE, especially if a guy like Shawn Marion might still be attainable with it.
