I'm a very casual baseball fan, but I've always been painfully aware of the ex-Houston players who go on to continued strong careers elsewhere or blossom elsewhere.

    Here's my incomplete lineup:

1B: John Mayberry or Rusty Staub
    2B: Joe Morgan
    SS:
    3B: Phil Nevin
    RF: Kenny Lofton, Steve Finley
    CF: Cesar Geronimo
    LF: Luis Gonzalez
    C:
    Ps: Mike Cuellar, ...

    Who am I missing?

This is what I posted in the Rob Neyer thread:

Now for the all-time Astros roster of players that had the best years of their career on other teams (criteria is that they basically started out with Houston, thus pitchers such as Robin Roberts and players such as Eddie Matthews don't qualify):

    Catcher - Jerry Grote
    1st Base - Nate Colbert
    2nd Base - Joe Morgan
    SS - Dennis Menke
    3rd Base - Ken Caminiti
    Left Field - Bobby Abreu
    Center Field - Kenny Lofton
    Right Field - Rusty Staub
    DH - John Mayberry
    SP (no particular order)

    Jerry Reusse
    Mike Cueller
    Jack Billingham
    Curt Schilling
    Freddy Garcia

    RP
    Dave Giusti
    Mike Marshall

    Feel free to disagree

Yikes... Menke, Abreu and Caminiti! My starting five is complete.
