espn is reporting that Washington Huskies football coach Rick Neuheisel has been fired for participating in a NCAA basketball tournament pool.
It wasn't of the 5 dollar variety. The winner got $20,000. That qualifies as gambling, that qualifies as a major no-no in college, and that equals fired.
Maybe it was of the $5 variety but there were so many participants in the pool that the winner got $20K. Does anyone know?
So where does the NCAA draw the line? You can bet $5 but not $5000. How about $20? $100? $500? Where does it go from a simple office pool to gambling. Someone needs to establish this.
Whatever happened, it was very poor judgement by Chuckie...er, Neuheisel. I never did like that putz...
Eustachy, Price, and now Neuheisel. Sounds like the NCAA needs a visit from Dr. Melfi from the Sopranos!
If you say so, but unless it could be proven he has a true gambling problem, or he bet on college football games while he was coaching, then I don't really see what the problem is.
Niners should have hired Neuheisel. Maybe they should hire him now as OC. He's still my favorite college coach.
Neuheisel broke a specific NCAA rule with regards to the pool. The Washington compliance director sent out an email reminding coaches of the rule prior to the tournament but there was a 'grey area' which Neuhesiel is using as his defense. You can read the stories on espn.com for more details.
Party with co-eds...... IDIOTIC Gamble...................... IDIOTIC Hit a player................ IDIOTIC I mean I dont think those requirements to be a coach are that steep. Just mind your P's and Q's and everything will be fine. Dude deserves to be canned.
You forgot this one... Drop major bucks at a topless bar, give a dancer your University credit card, allow her to charge $1,000 worth of room service from your hotel on the card......................IDIOTIC
He will win a lot of money in a lawsuit. He has an email saying it was ok to join in the gambling. The NCAA is a voluntary organization anyway...I think it is on the verge of going by by. DD
It's BS that he's getting fired, but the e-mail won't do much if anything. If anything, the person who sent the e-mail would get in trouble. Everyone knows very clearly not to bet on college games regardless of if it's $5 or 5K. Also, about Price--Did you see the stripper, she was fugly. I mean ridiculously GROSS.
