Asik and Parsons were the valuable trade chips. Lin was not. There's a reason we had to give up picks for someone to trade for him
not the same cause he actually paid both lin and asik 10m for 2 years paid pelicans 1.5m and have them pay him 15m and got a valuable pick from them and ariza gave lakers mid-late 1st round pick to pay lin 15m
They were not trade chips at all on those contracts. In case you forgot, Morey did trade them. He got a pick for Asik and he couldn't give Lin away. He had to give up a draft pick in order for a team to take Lin.
Lin is going back to play for Byron Scott, Houston's former point guards play better once they leave. Dragic, Lowry, Lin, and now, maybe Lin again.
the point was, the contracts were intentionally designed with landmines to make the incumbent team bow out.
this was all contingent on Houston banking on landing a 3rd star, and now we lost those trade pieces for non guarantees. i'm not saying Morey was wrong for trying to improve, key word, trying, but the price for losing has set this franchise back, drastically.
So Morey called Mark Cuban to try and poach his franchise superstar. “I was like, ‘Well, you're not getting Dwight Howard. Can you trade us Dirk Nowitzki?'” Morey said. “It was a bad moment for me.” A really bad moment, considering that Howard had already informed Dallas that he was signing elsewhere, even though Morey hadn't been made aware of his decision just yet. “Mark thought I was taunting him,” Morey said. This isn't exactly a new story, as Cuban talked about it back in November, saying he felt like he was being messed with and that Morey was rubbing his win of Howard in his face. "Definitely. And I don't blame them," Cuban said in November. "That's fine. But payback is a b****."
They have been trying to trade Asik all season. And nobody wanted Lin. They were not good trade chips.
You know, people always drop this tired line like we held Lowry and Dragic back. We gave them damn near every opportunity to succeed. Do you guys just ignore the fact that they each had a pretty average season immediately after leaving us? Perhaps they blew up because of their age, experience and mentality?
Not really, Lin and Asik were already gone, and the Asik deal was good. Parsons was replaced with Ariza at half the price, and Ariza may be the better fit for the team. Cuban is the one that got screwed, he paid 15 million for 8 million dollar player. So maybe Morey got over on Cuban, making it harder for Dallas to get players because they overpaid on Parsons.
What does it matter? They're both members of SPECTRE anyways... (SPecial Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion).
Are you really human? I have to wonder. A human being would have realized that this topic has been covered ad nauseam, and not cluttered the GARM with yet another thread attacking Morey.
yet they have the better team, better coach, better winning culture. it's not always about the best talent, it's also about how the talent fits with the team. Houston isn't in a position to be losing out on any talent, especially glue guys who were leaders of the team.
