Haggling over money right now due to his buyout. Seemed likely earlier today, but him and his agent rejected an offer but another one is expected.

IF he does agree to contract, you can expect him to get playing time since he will be taking a paycut to come over if he does.

Papanikolaou isn't as good as some of y'all appear to think. Two years, $4M should be enough, buyout or not. If he doesn't want to come over, too bad.

I guess the Rockets might up their offer somewhat, as they're obviously desperate to build up the asset base again, but $2M/year already is on the high side for a guy who *might* be a decent role-player.

The 2 yr $4M is basically a 2 yr $3M after his buyout, which is a fraction of what he's currently making. No one in their right mind would agree to that.

if he is basically ponying up 900k, I expect his starting salary to be about 900k plus about 500k...

    about 1.5-1.7mil per year

considering he was drafted in the 2nd round, I think this is why the Rockets offered him about 4 million(which personally is more than I would give...)

    Unlikely.

First, an amnesty claim of Boozer requires cap room-- and an exception WON'T work. To create even a modest amount of cap room requires the Rockets to waive the TPE, the MLE, and BAE and the non-guaranteed players.

Second, a player claimed off amnesty CANNOT BE TRADED AT ALL for a year (in Boozer's case, the entire duration of his amnesty claim contract). This eliminates Boozer's usefulness as even a matching salary to be used in a trade.

Overall, just not worth it. Houston should just keep the TPE, MLE, BAE and the non-guaranteed guys. One of these things can be used to sign or trade for a player at least as useful as Boozer on the floor and more useful as an asset with which to continue building the team.

Not quite. Read the OP more closely. $545,000 of his $1m buyout can be paid by Les with no team salary ramifications. The rest comes out of the player's salary.

    so: 2yr $4m becomes 2y $3.5m

That's fine. He can stay in Europe then.

$2M and a guaranteed roster spot is a lot for someone whose teams have been better with him on the bench the last two years ('13 NetRtg with Olympiacos: -0.8, '14 NetRtg with Barcelona: -7.2)

Also, the buyout is after taxes.

after whose taxes? Greece or the minor amount Uncle Sam can take from a foreigner working abroad. I'm sure we take some taxes, but I seriously doubt a legal alien pays the same US Taxes (if any) that US NBA players pay.

k, thx, I'm sure it's in this thread somewhere. I used google to fine the Carl Herrera link in my above post, and thought it was from this thread. See, I would have known that had I had time to read 18 pages of a thread about some dude worth $2m/yr at tops. :)

We could counter by adding a 15% trade kicker and player option for the last year.
