Always try to get the best deal for your team first (cap wise). Then move up from there... If he was blowing the doors off over there things would be different. I'm sure Morey is trying to pay him like the role player he would project to be on the team. I hope that can come to an agreement. If not, talk to you next year Papa..

Paying $1M out of his own pocket to cover the buyout to play for 1/3 of his current salary. He's not coming over unless Morey puts a serious offer on the table.

Sounds like they have a 2 year plan regardless where they are just trying to establish value contracts. He probably wants more if its a 2 year deal as opposed to a 3 year one. So probably looking for more like 4 mil per to make up for the short contract so not sure if they will be able to come up to where they want to leave Europe. The Rox have money to give but is it worth it to go up much higher?

The problem is Mirotic just got a 3 year 17 mil contract offer. I guarantee you that they are using that as a guideline to what they think they deserve even though Papanikolaou gives you about 75% of the talent.

Both players are the same age, similar size & skillset, & play for rival clubs in Europe. No doubt they are viewing each other as bench marks for the NBA... or at least Kostas is viewing Mirotic as a bench mark.

I think it's 500,000 dollars. I feel NBA teams should be allowed to pay up to
1M, otherwise they have very little chance in getting the international players that they draft.

Who decides on the buyout amount? If the teams are the ones to name their price then that defeats the purpose as teams will bump up their buyout prices.

Oh, come on Morey. I was really excited about this kid coming over. Up the ante, please. I've had enough disappointment this off season.

Perhaps the Rockets can have a declining value contract like Ariza's, where we pay him more in the first season than the 2nd in order to help him with the buyout payment he has to make.

Guess the BAE wasn't enough for him... damn. Gotta imagine Morey isn't keen to the idea of using part of the MLE to bring him over.

Not sure, but I think it's part of the NBA agreement with the international teams.

Maybe a 3M/yr contract like Scola's rookie deal.

It depends on what else you can do with the MLE, really. Is there some free agent that Morey wants to throw the MLE at?

Edit: Looks like Mike Miller was the guy. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=256740 "More than the Cavs' offer of $5.5M over 2 years" would have meant at least part of the MLE and there may not have been enough to pay both Miller and Paps with the MLE. With Miller gone, perhaps HOU would be willing to dip into the MLE more to pay Pap.

Marion would be a great option. 1 year deal, could play a little bit of 4 as well.

That's what I am wondering too. Is DM waiting for Boozer to be amnestied?
