Don't see how he and Dwight can play on the offensive end well together...think a stretch 4 makes more sense whereas his shot chart doesn't really give confidence in him being able to play that role.....probably too much $ to play off the bench..would be nice on defensive end against the other 4s in the West though
The difference is that Monroe can still be signed to a "tradable" contract. Main problem with Parsons, according to Morey, was that his contract was untradable. Making it impossible for us to improve the roster, if the Howard/Harden/ Parsons core isn't good enough to win. This whole conflict between him and Smith, could open the door way for the Rockets to come in and possibly offer a sign and trade, and get him on reasonable contract. Monroe, if signed to a reasonable contract, could become an asset for future trades.
It may seem dumb to have two post scorers at such a high price but a big man rotation of Jones, Monroe, and Howard where any two can play at anytime gives is a factor no other team has and it's a consistent defensive power house no matter which two are in.
I would take monroe for the right price. He is good in transition, fairly athletic, can handle the ball, can hit the 15-18 footer, a great passer, and adds size to our front court. However, no 3 pt range. In my opinion, can be utilized in twin tower lineup better than asik. I mean he handles the ball really well for a big man and has great court vision
Monroe would be perfect if it's via sign and trade. Rockets have some cap room to sign a player but doing so eliminates the exceptions. However if Rockets trade for him and then complete asik trade then Rockets would remain over the cap and get too keep exceptions. Monroe is starting caliber big even though he is not perfect fit next to howard. But if he is signed to a reasonable deal for say 4 years then he is another asset that can be traded halfway through the season. Morey always thinks ahead.
i highly doubt SVG lets monroe go. drummond/monroe is probably their foundation going forward. smith is the odd man out. after the parsons deal, his contract suddenly does not look all that bad.
He is an RFA and he is looking for crazy money. No one is going to get him on the cheap. 7 footers that average 15/10 always end up getting paid.
For some reason I would rather have j.smoove. A lineup of bev harden ariza smith and dwight would really lock some teams up if harden steps up his D.
Hell yeah it would!!! Could you imagine a lineup of: PG:Bev SG:Harden SF:Ariza PF:Monroe C:Howard That is a pretty decent squad
After we lost out on Bosh, this is the type of move I wanted to see the Rockets make before matching Parsons. With that said, I'd still like to see it happen. I'd take either Monroe (good trade asset and can play the 4/5) or Smith (elite defender at the 4) assuming the price wasn't too high. I'd love to see a defensive lineup that included Bev, Ariza, Smith, and Howard. If we have any prayer of making a trade later for Rondo, Love, or another impact player, we need to be able to match salaries up in addition to providing other assets. More importantly, both of these guys would really help the Rockets on the court.
