You very well could be right. Morey used a similar strategy with Lowry and it worked. SO FAR Bledsoe has not received a large offer, and while Stephenson is not restricted, he cannot seem to get over 9 million a year. Thomas signed with Phoenix for only 7-8 million. It does seem that Dallas just targeted Parsons from day 1, and that is their right... although I think they have insured they are not winning another title anytime soon.
I would be ok with Stevenson 10~11 Million but only for 2 ~ 3yrs Team Option on 2nd and third years Rocket River
agree with everything morey said, cant sign parsons as your "third star" because he's not one. Ariza is a better fit because he is a plus defender and parsons is a negative defender. Rockets can move on with trying to obtain rondo or love or whoever and can use all the exceptions they have to improve the bench. Love getting rid of Casspi because you know, he's terrible.
That's his SOP for players he wants to keep. He lets the market dictate the price. He did it with Landry and Lowry as well. He just never thought Cuban would mess things up.
On Parsons' contract being impossible to trade... that wasn't Parsons/Fegan planning to secure Dallas as the destination. Not at all. That was Parsons saying he wanted to be part a team's long term future. You can't fault the guy for that. Morey didn't pick up the contract because he couldn't trade Parsons. Why would Parsons want that?
i don't understand why everyone keeps saying we need a pg. harden is that pg, until mchale finally puts a stop to that. but can mchale do that and will harden get "on the same page" ?
It would be nice, though, having found a Chandler Parsons, to get something for him before letting him walk for the max. I think Morey is one of a handful of elite GMs, so this is not a dis on him; but he needs to learn how to read people better. When Chandler hired Dan Fegan, that should have been a sign. when Chandler talked so big all the time, that should have been a sigh. When other teams talked Chandler up so much, that should have been a warning sign. All those things should have pointed towards trading Chandler; rather than trhing to keep him.
It seems amazing to me that Morey brought in Howard last year, and Harden the year before, but now many people think he is an idiot because he didn't pay Chandler twice of what he is worth.
Cuban took a craphole of a team and made them competitive. Les inherited a championship caliber team, won 2 championships in his first two years, and have gotten out of the first round 3 times since then.
BTW, Morey sounded like he plans to use the MLE. I guess it will be on 1-2 year contracts, otherwise you lose flexibility for next summer. I ask myself what vaulable current FAs would accept that. Players who could help our team win this next season.
I wasn't talking owners. I was referring to the dorks on 790 who were all "OOOOH, MOREY WENT ALL TUPAC ON CUBAN!!!!"
I've even read "all free agents say no to us" and "flexibility doesn't matter." If clutch BBS posters made decisions, Spanoulis and PPat would be on max contracts because "no one else is available" and "we need to develop our own players."
I don't necessarily agree with this. He already said that he wanted to be featured in the offense more than he was in Houston. I think he really like the Rockets, the players, coaches and front office but knew he wouldn't ever be the focus of the offense in Houston.
It's because we have become used to him pulling off deals one way or another so they become spoiled. You can't expect every off season to be a blockbuster.
Harden is the point on this team. And with the loss of Parsons & Lin, Rockets lack playmaking and players that can create their own shot. Stephenson's offense, defense, toughness AND position flexibility is a PLUS.
