This is a Chinese report about Yao Ming's reaction after he knew that JVG will be the new coach.

It said after Rudy resigned, Rockets asked the opinion of Yao about the new coach. He gave them three names: LB, JVG and the former coach of SUNS (don't know how to translate his name). And JVG is the first choice of YAO.

Yao is very excited. He wanted to "be something big" with JVG. He said something about how the style of JVG is "suited" to him. His agent Eric also said that JVG will ask Yao to emphasize on "middle and long" range shot.

Sorry, I have to leave for a while. Maybe anybody can translate this report.

It sounds like he was simply repeating an advertising slogan: "Be a part of something big." Ad slogans = opiate for the masses?

Cool windandsea. Thanks! And return as soon as possible!

Well Yao Ming said that Jeff Van Gundy has his "full support". That's good...

    1. The Rockets contacted Yao for his input on coaching choice.

    2. The former Suns coach is Skiles.

    3. VG was very interested to get Yao when he was with the Knicks.

    4. Yao and Team Yao are very familiar with VG.

    5. Yao thinks VG's style fits very well with him. "VG is a propronent of the inside-out game. He emphasizes off ball movement. This way, when I get the ball inside, I'll have more room to either distribute or attack."

    6. Zhang speculates that VG will improve Yao's midrange and outside game.

    yep it's Skiles

Yao is extremely happy with Van Gundy, the report is full of praises and hopes....

one thing we can be certain that Yao will play a more important role on the team next year

Interesting piece of article. Very revealing too. Here is a rough summary of the article.

Yao is thrilled about Van Gundy. He was the top choice from Yao and Team Yao when Rockets asked their feedback a few days agao. The other two choices are Larry Brown and Former Suns headcoach Scott Skiles. He said he and Team Yao both are familiar with JVG. He would love to "Be Part of Something Big" with JVG. Yao likes JVG's coaching style of inside-out offense, emphasis on movement without the ball. When he get the ball in the post, he will have multiple options of trying to score and dishing out.

    W&S, thanks for the report!

I think that's great that Yao is so excited about Van Gundy being the coach. That was one thing about Rudy leaving that had me worried was that Rudy and Yao had a nice relationship and I was not sure if the next coach would have as good a relationship. Looks like from this article there is nothing to worry about.

Wonder if that means that VG wants Yao less out of the deep post and taking more jump shots via the high post?

as opposed to Rudy's offense, which emphasized standing around, and where Yao only had one option when he had possession.

Key there is "emphasis on movement without the ball" & "will have multiple options of trying to score and dishing out" which of course means that there will be more player movement on the weakside, something that the team lead under Rudy did NOT do last year.

No wonder Yao is excited about VG coming on. Sounds like the things that Yao is most comfortable with (an offense that moves around) is what we are going to be doing and less of the ISO and 3 guys behind the 3pt line offense.

Did the Rockets ask Yao about these 3 names or did Yao give them the 3 names? If the later, I would wonder why? If the Rockets asked every player, they would have a very long list of names to work with.

BTW, I didn't know Yao even knew Scott Skiles!

If Yao’s happy, I’m happy. He knows better than anyone what type of offensive schemes he’s comfortable playing in. Sounds like Van Gundy’s offense is exactly the type of offense that Yao loves to play under.

Yao's agent Eric Zhang said Rockets asked them opinons about next headcoach. They gave 3 names that they think will fit Yao.

lol...we haven't signed Van Gundy yet! Rockets wouldn't be good without a coach at all! Or Larry Smith....

And they need to adjust...you know.

BUT YES. I CAN'T WAIT! Should be great....hopefully.

Of course, we are still the worst team in Texas.

You mean Larry Smith didn't make Team Yao's top 3 list?

Yao is mean. He did not even include Larry Smith on the list. I am happy.
