Let's not pretend that Zac Diles is better than Parsons now just because he's the guy we have and he's cost effective.

We already broke that play down. That wasn't Parsons' fault.

    1. Lillard is quicker than Parsons.
    2. Coaches didn't prepare the team well enough
    3. Harden switching the match-up.

I get the point even if it was harden being lit up lol. I like parsons but I think we need to remember his disappearing act in playoffs while ariza is a gamer who steps up at those times. Our first run with him we placed way too much on his shoulders and his dribbling was horrendous. Next to harden and Howard I think he'll fit in well. Chandler is a better player but not twice as good as his contract would indicate. We need d at the wings, chandler can't do that, ariza can, and whether a fluke season or not, ariza can knock the 3 down like we'll need him to.

meh, i think chandler is a better than ariza but not THAT much better. i think this is more or less a lateral move, and honestly i dont think parsons is worth that contract. he has shown some spurts of very good play, but is still inconsistent and his defense is not what it was during his rookie year. maybe the lights got to his head, i dont know.

i wish chandler the best, but i am interested to see what ariza can bring to the table now that he is a 3rd option.

when we had him, he came off a championship season with the lakers and played well during the playoffs. i think that he is not a #1 option but i think he will do a similar job to parsons.

honestly though, i was never impressed with his defense whenever he was here at the rockets. maybe his defense picked up- i dont know. but i remember when we had the ariza-brooks back court we gave up a lot of points.

You need to consider that Ariza is in his prime and Parsons about to enter it. There's good evidence that hard working players keep improving until they hit their prime. So if you admit that Parsons is better then Ariza now, the skill gap will get bigger in the next two seasons.

Which brings me to a tangent, I would have love to seen status quo if we weren't able to land a superstar FA. We had good, hard working, young players. Another offseason of development, familiarity and working on maximizing their skills to improve individual weaknesses and addressing team needs could have made a huge difference. Argh, what could have been.

A lot of those plays literally nobody was defending. I only counted 1 play where Parsons was defending and the rest were Harden. The OP's title as has been pointed out is simply false. Welcome Ariza, sure, welcome. Not excited about Ariza though at all.

I'm not making excuses for Harden's defense, but his overall talent makes up for it Chandler's does not. We can't afford to have both Chandler and Harden out there at the same time. Chandler, Harden, and Lin always get lost on picks and they play bad defense, Jeremy picked it up a bit also but he was pretty bad. With Ariza we know we are getting defense, Much needed defense. Honestly I was doing this as a tongue in cheek rally, not as a serious analytical look at the video. Chandler defense was not good in the playoffs regardless of what the video shows of Hardens.

We won 54 games with them. If we had a PF who could have guarded LMA or presisted with Asik, we beat the Blazers.

Credit to you for being persistant at finding ways to dig yourself out of that hole.

    Not good enough though.

I actually said that Hardens defense was bad in my original post how am I digging myself out of a hole. Chandlers defense was bad in general in the playoffs, just because the video doesn't show that does not change anything. I think its a positive when you get rid of a guy who didn't play defense for one who maybe be older but does play defense. I'm just trying to look at the positive side of things and I think THE POINT IS WE GOT A GUY WHO CAN DO THIS. Rain down ten threes in a game at a great price. Ariza actually played well in the playoffs. You guys are real jerks sometimes man, lol.

I support the OP. Why are we so high on Parsons? I liked him too when he was here but if it is your own money would you pay that kinda money to him? His contract is just ridiculous for someone who hasnt proven anything in the playoffs (where it really matters) He hasnt even made it past the first round of playoffs and Ariza have a ring to show for. Below is what i got from Wikipedia about Ariza, im happy with this signing and im happy Rockets didnt match Parsons contract.

    "2009 Playoffs"

"In the playoffs, Ariza scored a playoff career-high 21 points in Game 1 of the first round against Utah Jazz.[7] In the Western Conference Finals against the Denver Nuggets, Ariza stole an inbound pass for Chauncey Billups in Game 1 to help Lakers beat the Nuggets. In Game 3, the Lakers led by two points with 37.1 seconds remaining when Ariza stole Kenyon Martin's pass to Carmelo Anthony near midcourt to help Lakers take a 2-1 lead.[8] The Lakers eventually won the series 4–2, sending them to the NBA Finals against the Orlando Magic. In Game 4 of the finals, Ariza who was 0-for-6 in the first half, scored 13 in the third quarter to help the Lakers win in overtime and finished the game with nine rebounds and three 3-pointers.[9] The Lakers went on to win their 15th NBA title in five games, 4-1. Ariza averaged a career-high 11.3 points and 4.2 rebounds and shot 50% from three-point range in the playoffs."
