Morey can still find value. His job has just started, just because you don't a full house doesn't mean you have a bad hand.

And so far we've downgraded. The whole point of losing Asik and Lin was to clear room for a max player.

Before the Spurs, the Heat won 2 titles in a row. The Spurs picked up Diaw, he was important.

Difference is regardless of Diaw, the Spurs are better than us. Diaw is the final piece for them...not for us lol.

    Basically, this.

The Spurs don't need major free agents because they developed their star trio in house. Tanked one season for the big gun. Good drafting/luck for the other two. A hall of fame coach. And that is all they need. The rest is just rounding out the roster with players with particular skills.

The Rockets' best hope is really the draft, foreign prospects, player development, and upgrading the coaching.

And Pop knew how to use Diaw as an x-factor all over the court, he would have been another Omri Casspi with us

The point is they picked up value and they are a good example of how to do things in the modern nba

Seriously, they already have their BIG 3, and then they are about to add Pau Gasol. The rich get richer ...

you can restate that Pop is better than McHale and reach 40 thousand posts
but you still don't answer the main question

do we go for value free agents now that we can't get bosh or melo? or should we just over pay some people like Jeremy Lin

The Spurs wouldn't pay him that much. it's about value.

The Spurs has a system to bring out the best of their players, much like the old Bulls did with those role players. What does the Rockets have in place?

If you cannot get past the 1st round of playoff with TWO top 10 players, then you suck.

People still don't really understand how crucial coaching is.

    you still need players.

coaches can be fired at anytime, free agents are only available in certain time windows.

    look at dwight howard

The Spurs got three HOF players and a HOF coach.
Also they have a young star on the rise in Leonard.

Now The Rockets got 2 superstars who could be HOF's one day but........we lack the 2rd HOF player and we lack the HOF coach.

Mchale is in the HOF for being a player not coach.
So please stop comparing the Rockets to the Spurs.

Danny Green and Lenard are pretty good too.

I feel like the Rockets need a big free agent. We will never be bad enough to get a top player in the draft. We might luck out with the Pelican's pick, but no guarantee there. Morey has proven that he can definitely find great role players that cost next to nothing, but if we don't have another significant piece, we won't get very far.

    Zactly,

People refuse to acknowledge that the Spurs have always had three superstars that have always played at less than market value.

Its the reason why they have had long term success

That is why we need a third "big time player" to be a serious contender.

Of course you need players to win in this league, but the difference is the Spurs don't through money around to overpay "big name" stars, they just simply turn most role players into "valuable" components, while kept winning.

On the other side, the Rockets have to pay top $$ to chase the big name stars, and still couldn't win anything in playoff.

Guys like Diaw was not much a fact in all the teams he played with before. Then boom, he becomes a key player with the Spurs.
