Well, 5 months after starting work, I'm heading out to Vegas with some friends Wednesday night. We'll be staying at New York, New York, which is supposed to be a decent place. This is my first time going, and it would be great to get some input on the following: 1. Places to gamble 2. Bars, clubs, and general nightlife activities 3. Places and things to see during the day 4. Gambling tips 5. Strip clubs Also, I thought that the whole "looks like I'm going" trend was getting kinda old.
Make sure you know how to play blackjack before sitting down at a table. Don't go and hit on a 14 when the dealer is showing a 5. I enjoyed all the big casinos on the strip, especially Bellagio, Venetian and Paris. I did pretty well at New York New York. ESPN Sportzone in NYNY was pretty cool as well. I didn't go to any clubs except for Cheetah's. Needless to say, that was fun.
Check out this bbs: http://pub50.ezboard.com/flasvegastalkfrm1 The members there are hardcore Vegas visitors and can answer any of your questions. I've never stayed at NY NY but it is a great location.
i try to go to vegas every other month. ill be there in early august. i gamble at the bellagio, the mgm grand, and ceasars cause they all use the same players card. the bellagio buffet is best in town but after 3 visits to it i dont think ill be heading back anytime soon. as far as things to do while your there...uhh gamble, gamble and gamble. eat and sleep. if your up big go to the crazy horse and kill some time.
1. Places to gamble - Anywhere and everywhere. Hell even Mickey D's has a slot or two. MGM is nice becuase they have a HUGE casino so its easy to get on a blackjack or craps table. 2. Bars, clubs, and general nightlife activities - Hard Rock Hotel is where you want to be if you are young. They have a cool club there called Baby's that is sweet (lots-o-hotties) and the casino is set up with a big circular bar in the middle-cool. Other good clubs/bars - Rum Jungle (Mandalay), Ra (Luxor), Ghost Bar (Palms), Voodoo Lounge (Rio), Drais (Barbary Coast). Those are my favs. There is also some cool bars at the Venetian as well. 3. Places and things to see during the day - sleep, drink, Hoover Dam, Golf, drink, gamble, Helicopter Ride, gamble, take in a show (O at Bellagio or Mystere at Treasure Island are the best $100 I have ever spent in my life), gamble, sleep, drink, walk up and down the strip, sleep, drink, ride the rollercoasters, gamble, sleep, hang out by the pool at Mandalay or Hard Rock, sleep, gamble, eat at the Bellagio or Rio buffet, drink, and sleep - oh and then gamble again. 4. Gambling tips - Stick with Craps, Bacarrat, or Blackjack. All the other gambling (roulette, slots, wheel of fortune, etc) have TERRIBLE odds and completely favor the casino. Stick with these games and you should be cool. If you do hit the slots play the $1 minimum games or higher - these have the best payout odds. Buy a book on blackjack - helped me out alot!! 5. Strip clubs - Olympic Gardens is the best IMO, Cheetah, and Crazy Horse II are cool too. Dont bother with the "all nude" joints - complete rip-offs! Oh and dont ask the cabbie either. They get paid by the clubs to recommend and take you there. Have fun man! I am headed back there in September I think. Whatever happens in Vegas - stays in Vegas.
1) Go play "War" at the Bellagio and Venetian. Yes, THAT War. Brush up on Craps rules (best odds). Learn strategy for Blackjack. Learn how to play Let It Ride. Set a gambling limit and FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, STICK TO IT. 2) Ghost Bar rules. However, after the Real World invaded the Palms, I'm sure it's EXTRA crowded now. Voodoo Lounge and Rain are good, too. See the pirate battle at Treasure Island. Time permitting, go see Cirque de Soleil at the Bellagio. Or, go see another show. 3) Bellagio fountains. The pool at the Hard Rock. The Venetian "mall." 4) Ha ha. If I had good tips, I'd be rich. Sorry. Like I said before, set a gambling limit and hide the ATM card. 5) I've only been to Crazy Horse Too. I'd second RM95's affirmation of "fun" there...
Baqui, Im going on Wednesday too. Staying at the Palms for 2 days and Hardrock for 2 days. Just wondering, how old are you? That will decide which places you should check out and places you should stay away from.
Roulette is not horrible odds. You have nearly a 50/50 chance of winning if you bet on red or black. For an unskilled/unknowledgable player, that is probably better than you will get at blackjack.
i would love to see ben harper there...i though it was sold out? im not leaving htown until the 4th of august. im driving back to seattle but making stops in denver, vegas, and san fran. so ill be in vegas around the 7-9th. im planning on seeing ben harper at the gorge here in Wa Aug. 22nd. IMHO i think the gorge is the best outdoor venue in the US.
It might be sold out, I haven't checked. That sucks though. I've really been dying to go see Dave at The Gorge.
yeah i saw dave at the gorge last summer...my first dave show and it was great. also saw radiohead there. dave will be there again at the end of this summer.
Roulette and slot machines give you the worst odds in Vegas. Betting on Red or Black is not really playing roulette. If someone has to resort to that, then there is no point in going to Vegas.
Poker at Bellagio. A lot of "nice" tourists. You can take the free tram from Monte Carlo (next to NY NY) to Bellargio. Slots at MGM, which is right across NY NY. They are among the most liberal in Vegas, IMHO. Buffet at Paris. Unbeatable. But never gamble at Paris. It sucks money. Sleep during the day, caus nothing happens during the day:^)
