There's been 1,000 facts thrown around. Are they relevant? It depends if your biased towards/against JVG. RudyT is gone. Brown didn't sign with us. Riley and Jackson weren't available. We signed JVG. Those are facts. The only other relevant facts will be our record this time next year. Until then, this conversation is nothing but filler.
When good things turn bad sleepy wakes up. So Phils a great coach b/c he had Jordan and Shaq. Phil is a great coach b/c he made 12 guys worked together and use each others talent to win. Yes Jordan is the best player and Shaq , Kobe are great but if you don't have a coach to keep the team together then winning is not possible.
NYKRule: What's funny is how NY fans in any sport always think playing or coaching for a NY team somehow magically confers superiority. New Yorkers are the most parochial people in the country (which probably has something to do with this hire).
Wrong. We just know what we are talking about. Don Chaney is a moron. Joe Torre is almost as overrated as Phil Jackson. George Steinbrenner is a money grubbing b*stard. Jeff Van Gundy, the second best coach the Knicks ever had, is the best thing that could happen for a Steve and Yao led Rockets team. You'll shortly see when the team has atleast 48 wins next year. Please, bookmark this thread if you feel the need to even have little doubt to it. You won't need to prove me wrong because I am right about this.
Ah yes, but do you remember when Spree first went to the Knicks, and was coming off the bench at the beginning, and how he would glare at JVG from the bench, and JVG with arms folded would pretend to avoid that malevolent glare, probably thinking, "OK, I'll get Spree in at the next dead ball, or I'm a dead coach---God, don't let him kill me. Oh no, I think I forgot my Right Guard today...better check my shorts, I'm feeling kinda squishy...come on, TV timeout, save me..."
I'm afraid that I'll believe that when I see the proof out there on the court winning against teams in the Western Conference.
Now that Van Gundy is with the Rockets, people should support him, not be wet blankets. BTW, why do you have trouble remembering VAN Gundy's name? Are you a fish?
I know what we just gained and that is another lottery pick. NYK It doesn't matter if the Rockets win 48 games. Will it be 48 wins and Lottery bound or will it be48 wins a another ring. Hell the Rockets have made the playoffs at .500 . Whats 48 games I want to see 58 or 60 wins.
I want enough wins to make the playoffs whether that means 48, 58, etc.. I don't care. I'm tired of watching every other team in the playoffs. I would think the number is closer to 48 than 60 considering there will be an adjustment as to how things are done. By mid-season, I'm sure there will be a trade to get rid of someone who is not conforming. In fact, someone will fall out of the equation before the summer is up. My guess is Glen Rice, Mo Taylor or Moochie Norris.
Regarding what Van Gundy brings, I think you have to look at what the Rockets lacked. Would anyone disagree that they lacked discipline on the court, especially offensively, and that cost alot of games? If you go by that, and the fact that Van Gundy is generally regarded by NBA talking heads as being more able to bring discipline on the court, then it's a positive step. Anyway, no one knows for sure what the result will be, but rational analysis of the situation suggests that Van Gundy could be a big help to Houston.
When Larry Brown resign. The Rockets said Brown was the 1st choice. Not according to this article on ESPN: Van Gundy has been owner Les Alexander's top choice to replace Rudy Tomjanovich, the longtime Rockets coach who stepped down on May 23. http://espn.go.com/nba/news/2003/0609/1565431.html
You are just plain r****ded. If you think any coach can magically turn a 500 team to a 58 or 60 win team in one season, you are legally r****ded. If you have a coach ANYWHERE that can do that please show me this god. Go back to sleep. BTW-You are just digging yourself into a deeper hole of idiocy if you think 48 wins is "lotto bound".
"Discipline" will stifle open-court offense. You may not see any value in that, but it *is* what some of this team is built around. YM will improve, but he is still not ready to carry this club. For every victory they pick up against the likes of the Clippers, they will drop games won with "heart" such as the Lakers and Suns games. On the whole, I think it will take the club too much time to adapt, and they will dig a hole too deep to climb all the way out.
Thanks for proving what I said. I just didn't feel like digging up the link. Seriously, people should read a little before they make assumptions based on this board or ESPN.
This is like the Yao Ming debates last summer all over again. You have people claiming Van Gundy will be a bust before he even coaches a single game for the Rockets just like there were people claiming Yao would be a bust before even playing his first game. Let's wait and see him coach before we proclaim the Rockets a lottery bound team.
We should begin a potential "Crow Eating" list for those who think Gundy bring nothing to the table or Gundy will fail. Are these the same people who said Yao will fail? Haters for life?
