So now The Rockets are going to Win? Wrong. This is the Western Conference. Coaches are smart. Coaches aren't dragged on the floor. Man what a memory flash. NO NO

Does this mean that we're going to get Patrick Ewing as an assistant too? I have read that Ewing wants to coach Yao (with VanGundy), but will have to be a "real" assistant as opposed to whatever he was doing with the Wiz: has anybody heard anything new about this?

Who is going to coach O for Van Gundy?

I know that the half court O will likely go thru the big man, but what about transition O, early offense and movement w/o the ball?

That is what sequspur hopes to look like after he's gone through puberty.

My God, we both share the same fear about this hire. The Rockets will improve defensively but what will happen to them offensively is a giant mystery. I pray that VG recognizes that Yao is NOT Patrick Ewing and designs a passing offense around his strengths. I'm reserving comment on VG until I see what type of offense he puts out on the court.

I am mystified as to why so many are enamored of this guy as well. He's an OK coach I suppose but nothing really special. He's in for a huge adjustment coming from the East and having to play LA, SA, Sac and Dallas - all teams that can score a lot of points. From what I've read, his intensity may well work against him should things start to go badly for the Rockets.

I know 2nd round picks aren't supposed to be all that important nowadays, but you can always pick up some guys who have potential and not worry about guaranteed money. That's an easy way to test out players in training camp.
That's why I think it's a bit much to give to the Knicks for just 1 1/2 months left on Van Gundy's contract. It's not like he has 2 years left on his contract.

JVG? Not bad! Give him 2 or 3 years and we can see whether he's better than Rudy.

Maybe the question is irrelevant to this thread but just for curiosity, how tall is Jeff Van Gundy? 5'9?

i dont expect it on tomorrow's press conference. we know how slow the management is.. i expect it on the pre-season.. i think they will time it with the opening of the new arena.. but, who knows.. maybe the rocs will surprise us. :)

Guys... Darryl Dawkins for coach. No question about it. Van Gundy can jump off a cliff. jk, but seriously Darryl for assistant at least. Oh and according to Darryl Larry Brown was a b!tch that played favorites. He said he sucks as a coach.
