Yes, I agree they probably would. He'd be overpaid and the Rockets would be in salary cap hell, but we'd be contending for championships and not care about flexibility anymore.

Where it's dicey is if we don't get Bosh. At that point, what's more valuable? Parsons or flexibility?

At his age, why opt out of $15m to get less per year? He might opt out of his last year at $15m so he can sign on for 4 more years at $15m, but don't see why he'd do it for a paycut. That's something you might do at Wade's age (though I think Wade messed up doing it), but not Parsons. If he was only worth $10m, he'd keep his last year at $15m and then sign a new deal for $10m per. And, who knows, maybe he'd have a good year and get $15m.

I wouldn't be surprised if they started making calls to Pau and gave him a 24 hour window in which to sign. 3yrs 30 mil ought to do. Then match Parsons.

I was under the impression that the reason there are many deals being signed that allow a player to opt out in two years is because that's when the NBA gets a new TV deal and it is expected to raise the ceiling for player contracts significantly.

I'm sure every good agent is telling his players that unless there is an injury risk, pretty much everyone should try to negotiate a new contract then because they will get a pay raise after that new TV deal goes though.

you have to go all in the next 2 years. you can't hope at the end of every year that a max level free agent will sign with you and THEN you will be a real contender. otherwise, you are just wasting time.

If the Rockets truly do have Bosh, and all indications so far seems like they do, this contract really is pretty good. The only downside is the hard cap for year 1 that will restrict our movement should we try to S&T for Bosh.

In 2 years, Parsons will surely opt out of his contract to get a bigger deal. That's when the Rockets dump him. Offer both Bosh and Howard a smaller but longer deal with more guaranteed money for them to opt out. Use the savings to make the biggest FA acquisition since Shaq in Durant. Howard/Bosh/Durant/Harden/Morey can always find a PG.
