Whether we get bosh or not, do not match. Dallas isn't winning a championship with parsons as their highest paid player. And we aren't winning a ring with mchale as our coach. Might as well let Dallas pay parsons while we toil.
1. Almost impossible to stay under the Tax Apron. Tax Apron is $80M. Bosh - $20M Dwight - $21.4M Parsons - $14.9M Harden - $14.7M Total - $71M You still have to fill the rest of the roster. You can't even load up on vet minimum contracts, you literally have to go league minimum players to stay under the cap. IE, you can't get ANY veterans as their minimums will be higher. The NBA requires that you carry a minimum of 13 players on the roster (12 active, 1 inactive). So, the team would need 9 players for < $80M to avoid the Tax Apron. So to fill that out, you're talking either loading up on undrafted players, rookie/sophomores, and Maybe the odd veteran. IF you sign Bosh you lose the MLE (as you're using cap space). IF you don't sign Bosh, then the Rockets can retain their MLE (as Parsons is matched) depending on the order of how they execute their contracts. Basically it would have to go in a specific order to ensure that the Rockets remain above the Salary cap. 1. Re-sign sufficient players (without renouncing) to remain above the salary cap. 2. Match Parsons. 3. Do NOT move/renounce so many players that you drop under the salary cap. That would let them retain the mid-level. However, if you do NOT sign Bosh and you're matching Parsons, then it is likely that the Rockets simply keep Lin in order to retain their pick/assets and have the mid-level in hand. Now, for those wondering about why staying under the tax apron is such a big deal, here is what happens when you exceed the Apron. 1. You lose the mid-level and only have the mini-mid level ($2.5 vs $5M) 2. You lose the bi-annual exception ($2.3M) 3. You can NOT accept any players through sign and trade. 4. You can sign and trade your own players as long as your salary remains the same or declines. 5. You can NOT sign any new players without either a special exception (disabled, retirement, etc) without dropping under the hard cap first (waiving non-guaranteed contracts, using the stretch provision, etc). Even if we miss out on Bosh, why wouldn't you match? Sure, next year you'd end up with a fair amount of cap room, but isn't Beverly a FA? And it doesn't sound like the crop of FAs next year are dying to head to Houston - LMA to resign, Love with multiple suitors...Parsons is 25 and has progressed, at least offensively, all 3 years in the league. Just add some depth and resign him. I don't want to waste another year of Dwight in his prime.
I would rather just sign parsons, forget bosh, he doesn't even want to be here. Let's be honest, he's just gonna be another floor spacer on this team. You can't replace parsons, he means too much for this team chemistry wise.
Bev would be restricted so you end up in the same situation that you have with Parsons (cap hold goes up, but can sign player first & then match). However the market for PG's is completely different than any other position in the NBA. The demand is super low because of the supply. Even Lowry who is an all-star caliber PG only got 12 mil per. I think a good comp is Vasquez who was signed back at 6 mil per for 2 years. Long story short, I'm not nearly as concerned with the Pat Bev situation. The Parsons situation is happening because he's going somewhere else to be the perceived "face of the franchise". Bev would be going to another team to either be their backup, or a glue guy/defensive specialist. Big difference there in the Bev situation vs. the Parsons one.

Bosh comes first - he has 2.5 days to get on board or match Parsons and shut that door. If you can get Bosh, crunch the numbers and see if we can match Parsons and still field a team. If we can't, we can't. I don't hate Parsons - he's been the most underpaid player in the league for a couple years. I don't hate Cuban - this is what he does. Dallas isn't a contender if they keep Parsons and it shuts them out of a lot of big moves as Dirk slowly comes into landing. I'll be bummed for sure if we don't come away with an upgrade (Bosh) PLUS Parsons, but Bosh still will be an upgrade if Parsons is subtracted. We can patch up the 3 easier than we can find a different F/C. We can't afford to go into the season with no improvement at PF and no backup center.

Philly drafted 5 guys in 2nd round this year. If Rockets trade Lin to Philly, I would say there are very good odds that Jones and DMo go there as well in exchange for 2-5 of these guys. Also, Bosh would need to sign for a little less than 20 million because Rockets can't renounce QO and match Parsons's contract.
it's a lot of money for a 4th option but yes i'd pay, even if it would be fun to let cuban overpay ... but even if we dont get bosh, we'll get Ariza or Deng or idk who, we have to built the best team and letting parsons walk will not make us better. i dont care about the money i'm not the one writing the checks
The way i see it, in two years he'll be worth it so you might as well pay him now as a goodwill gesture so that in two years when him, Harden and Dwight are free agents (Chandler has a third year player option, Dwight has a fourth year player option) he'll opt out and take less so Dwight and Harden can get payed
