My understanding is that New Orleans is trading Melvin Ely to clear the cap space but they can't to that until July 13th.

If true, Lin is going to be great in Philly if given the chance to start. He can help MCW a lot and with 2 young bigs to play PNR, Lin will run an efficient and high scoring offense. He can be re-signed by Philly at a reasonable cost too, so it's possible that he could be there for a while and help that team develop.

doesn't matter as much when the team absolutely sucks. they only fill in about 2/3 of their seating capacity. if the team was competitive, he would need 24 hour security

If lin goes to the sixes and he actually plays then they will sell out every game. Lots of lin fans in the philly/jersey area and ny is only 2 hours away.

When I'm bored with Free Agency threads I come here for comical relief. At least all the LOF have congregated in one thread.

Forgot what it was like to have several GARM threads with actual Rockets fans in it.

Can we quietly disconnect that LOF thread and drop them on a Philly server already???

Lin is a good player but overprice at 15 mil/year. The deal to ship him out is to clear cap space to bring in a MAX player. Bad players in this league do not get to stay, case in point.........Areanas

That's not entirely correct. Melvin Ely's contract contains a team option. Babbitt, Ryno's backup, does too. In order to clear cap space for Asik, the Pelicans will need to decline both. But even if they decline the Bird Rights to all their Free Agents and decline team options on Babbitt and Ely, they would still need to move Rivers to clear enough space to sign Asik. And they would need this without taking back any salary. In addition, they would lose the MLE and BAE in this scenario, leaving them with nothing but the Room Exception. They will do it if nothing else gets worked out but they'd rather not. Their preferred route is to involve a third team or convince a team to take on Gordon's bloated contract. The latter two options would allow them to keep MLE and BAE. So far, they have either not announced it, or, have been unsuccessful in finding a third team or a taker for Gordon. The Pelicans love Asik; they won't back out of this deal. The Rockets have the NOLA 1st and need cap space (and Asik doesn't want to be a Rocket); they certainly won't back out. Asik to New Orleans will happen but nobody knows exactly how it will get done.

I read on that website it's LIN and a first rd pick (could be our own or NO pick which would suck) and possibly a third element like dmo or Canaan for example. if third element is dmo would actually help is in. freeing up more $$ for bosh. think dmo cap hold is 1.7million.
