The College World Series is near, with the field being whittled down to just 16 teams. That means it's super-regional weekend, with the biggest matchup probably being UT vs. FSU here in Tallahassee. UT comes in as defending champions; FSU as the #1 team in the nation. The forecast calls for a lot of rain, however, meaning the series may be rushed to completion...or at least pushed back into early next week. I hope to get out to the stadium to see a game, maybe two this weekend if time & weather permits, but I was wondering what I should expect from UT. Anyone to watch, general feelings going into the series, etc... From FSU, health is a key issue - many of our key players have been ailing of late (Drew, Martinez-Esteve, etc) - as is consistancy. FSU baseball has always had trouble taking care of business; they can win 2 out of any 3 baseball games, but losing that first game is the one that hurts all too often. I think they are a tad overrated at #1 overall, though they are definately one of the top teams in the nation. The first game should be the one that decides the series, imo. The fans will definately be on FSU's side; the Section B Animals are nearly unparalleled anywhere. Even with that advantage, however, the first game is key. Thoughts?
Don't forget that UH and Rice are playing a super regional this weekend at Reckling. Hopefully, the Cougars can pull off the upset.
Mfclark, There is no way UT deserves to be playing the number 1 national seed in a super regional. The NCAA screwed us over plain and simple. And I would be very very worried as an FSU fan, as I think we will come in with something to prove. Either way, one of the top 8 teams in college baseball will lose in this series, and that's a shame.
DV - I agree, and that's what has me worried. FSU should be playing some lesser team, as should UT. I'm not convinced of FSU's propensity to win the big game - which, in my estimation, is the first one - nor of their ability to quickly bounce back from adversity. They did it this past weekend vs. South Alabama, but there's a rather large gap between S. Alabama and the University of Texas.
Games of interest on TV today! Baylor vs. LSU - 11:30 AM (Baylor leads series 1-0) Houston vs. Rice - 6:00 PM Texas vs. Florida State - 7:00 PM Check ESPN and ESPN2.
The forecast isn't looking good, especially for FSU-UT tonight. It's rained here pretty much steadily for about 4 days now, and tonight is not supposed to be an exception. If I had to guess, I'd be watching some other game tonight, because this one isn't going to happen. Info: http://www.met.fsu.edu/wxstation/athletics.html
i guess my prediction should've been RAIN not PAIN for the UT/FSU game. so will they now play a double-header tomorrow if it doesn't rain?
Today's games: Baylor LSU (1:30 PM) - tied at 1-1 Houston Rice (2 PM) - UH leads 1-0 Texas FSU (5 PM) - if not PPD What will Rice's excuse be tonight if the Owls are eliminated?
