The absolute worst case for JLin and his fans is a trade to Cleveland or Philly, where he never even sees the floor, and is unceremoniously flipped at the trade deadline for yet another pick. The moves that Philly and Cleveland are making are not consistent with teams looking to win now or develop young talent. Rather the moves are with teams trying to rebuild through the draft via tanking, high lottery picks, and acquiring expiring contracts with desirable picks and/or young assets attached. If I am correct, why would these two teams play Jlin at all; a man whose skillset includes Leonard Lowe catatonic disinterest on some nights and Raymond Babitt autistic savant laser focus on other nights? His presence on the floor could result in facilitating a tank or preventing it altogether. The sure move, fro a tanking team, is to bench him and trade him at the deadline for picks.

Milwaukee is the best option. Kidd is the new coach, they’ve got Jabari Parker and Giannis Antekokoumpo via the lottery, in consecutive seasons, and they are feverishly trying to acquire an experienced PG. According to espn, they are targeting Eric Bledsoe (via a S&T with Phoenix); JLin (whom they expect to deliver a #1 and either Capela, who could start at PF, or Johnson who could backup Giannis at SG); and Grevis Vasquez from Toronto (who was very good here in New Orleans a couple years ago). These moves are consistent with a team looking to win now; especially when you consider that Bledsoe could actually end up costing them a pick. And it is not inconceiveable that a team of Bledsoe (or JLin), Parker, Giannis, Capela (or Johnson) could end up the 8th seed in the weak east. I am not a LOF fan but very much a Lin fan and proud to be one, but, if a Jlin trade facilitates the arrival of a third star in Houston, I’m all for it; especially if the third star is a PF. Lin and the Rockets need distance; his future in Houston was doomed the minute they signed Harden.

Regarding the 2015-2017 picks? Why would a trading partner settle for that as opposed to the 2014 NOLA pick? Unless I'm missing something; teams would be pinning their hopes on something that's just not likely to happen. The Rockets won't get worse in 2015 or 2016. It would make more sense to demand the NOLA pick.

Going off Woj said, there are deals lined up for Lin.

You can't just demand the Nola pick if Morey has any semblance of leverage.

It all depends on the market

The importance of not giving Dragic that option was to maintain salary flexibilty to acquire a superstar.

Lin's place in Houston wasn't doomed by Harden's arrival but his own inability to live up to his contract and develop into a starting quality PG.

The Rockets sent enough cash to cover White's contract that the Sixers made a profit. They also gave up Aldemir who's considered first round talent.

This may be just me but I think if we didn't get Harden, Lin would have averaged 18pts and 8 ast, which would've justified the salary.

There is no question that Harden wins more games than JLin; every statistic bears that out. There's no argument regarding that. Both JLin and Asik are good nba players, but not at $15M/yr. not yet any way. In their 2013 Player Rankings, ESPN/TrueHoops assembled a 200 member panel of basketball writers, former players, former coaches, former GMs, and analysts to rank the top 500 players in the NBA. See http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/page/nbarank-hou-2013/2013-nba-player-rankings-houston-rockets. Harden was voted the #4 best player in the league; Howard was ranked #7 in the league. The other Rockets came in at #58 (Parsons), #64 (Asik), #106 (JLin), and #174 (Patrick Beverley). Even if JLin and Asik played to their absolute best, they would still pale in comparison to the fourth best player in the league and the 7th best player in the league. A third year trade for JLin and Asik was a certainty because neither was capable of posting stats worthy of $15M, especially from the bench. Morey was never going to pay $30M for two backups. Once the superstars arrived, it was only a matter of time before Lin and Asik left. Morey is a smart man. He recognizes the value of an expiring contract. As many here have already posted, Lin and Asik were never main characters in Morey's long term plan for this team. He was always after something bigger. Lin and Asik were just good enough to field a competitive team until he could realize his dream. And to his credit, he played it perfectly. If the Bosh/Love/Melo/Lebron acquisition happens, the Rockets will be a true contender next season.

By the way, I am a Harden fan, via the Hornets. When they moved to OKC after Katrina, I fell in love with that city. When the Hornets returned to New Orleans, and OKC got their own team, I became a fan; particularly a Harden fan. My favorite player in the league is Tyson Chandler and that's not an easy thing to be. I followed him to New York, which is how I came to know Jeremy Lin (via Linsanity). I followed Harden and JLin to Houston. WE are fans for many reasons, my friend. I still can't help rooting for CP3, even after all these years. We do it because it makes us happy. It doesn't need to make sense.

Getting Harden made it harder. But it is mainly his own doing. I don't think he sucks as much as everyone else does. I think he only sucks in relation to his contract. If he was getting 5 million a year - unloading him would be a lot easier. You would have to pin that one on Morey.

Or rather, develop into a starting quality SG. Last time I watch, Rockets doesn't play any PG since Harden is the one trying to play as PG. If you don't agree, it might be good to watch again what happened last year. Rockets' PG is PG in the name only.
