I'm in this camp...you can't throw away years hoping that the next year you'll be able to find that guy....not when you have 2/3 of a big 3 already in place.
Bosh is just a very passive personality and it shows in his game. It is the reason that Anthony and Love are so more exciting. Having said that, Bosh is a very good defender. He is a very smart and disciplined defender, which would greatly help the Rockets in an area of need. He also is a very good middle range shooter, which is what the Rockets need. The issue I have with Bosh is adding him, has the feel of a WCF team at best, but not a Finals team. Howard/Bosh/Parsons/Harden/Beverley is a very good starting 5....
So am I. We can't afford to stand pat. If Bosh is the best available, then we have to get him, and if he isn't then Morey has to find a deal that works for the "next available.".
To tell the truth, if we miss out on a Big free agent and Morey passes on filling out the roster I, an ardent Morey supporter, would say he blew it. Windows close so fast in sports. Yes Harden and Howard are good, but neither is Lebron/MJ/Hakeem/Duncan, etc. They aren't cornerstone pieces that are going to give you great basketball for a decade where you have seemingly unlimited chances to get it right.
One of the things i like the most is that Bosh would be able to spell Dwight at center at times. Bosh could play out high, and really open the lane up for Harden/Parsons
Yes, I worry that team can't win a title. Like I said in another thread, none of the big 3 in that lineup is a "no matter what happens I'm scoring the damn ball" kind of guy. All 3 have a tendency to disappear when the going gets tough or the pressure mounts. Dwight really only because he relies so much on someone else getting him the ball at the right moment, but Harden can be almost neutralized completely by swallowed whistles and Bosh has proven in Miami that he can disappear if the team starts falling apart. For a team that has shown it does fall apart, I'd like more of a leader. But I'd settle for Bosh.
Before you edited this post, you said a 3 year deal keeps us alive for the Summer of Durant. But wouldn't we need it to be a 2 year deal to make that the case?
There is no way around it. You have to take the risk. For a team always exiting in first or second round, WC is golden and winning WC will mean Finals.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Mitch Kupchak and the <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Lakers?src=hash">#Lakers</a> have offered Carmelo Anthony a 4 year max deal, per sources <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Melo?src=hash">#Melo</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/FreeAgentFrenzy?src=hash">#FreeAgentFrenzy</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/FreeAgency?src=hash">#FreeAgency</a></p>— David Aldridge (@daldridge_tnt) <a href="https://twitter.com/daldridge_tnt/statuses/486205452846628864">July 7, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> There we go.
I said it would be an expiring contract that year which would mean it would be potentially easy to move. 1 year at 22 million for Bosh 2 years from now is a lot easier than 2 years 45 million most likely.
You get to the WC finals and see what happens. I'd be thrilled to progress that far. We weren't supposed to advance in 1986 against the defending champion Lakers and took the series in 5 games. Teams work their asses off to get in a position to advance to the Finals, and that requires battling for the conference title. Get that far and anything can happen. If any team has proven that, it's the Rockets.
No freaking doubt man. That's why this asset collection BS has been driving me crazy. I wish we would just build a team already. This front office obsession with wanting to get a third star is really irritating. As a fan, we are very much aware of the product on the court and we know we have a very good team. The problem is that we need more solid role players, especially on wing that can help Parsons/Harden play less minutes. As excited as I would be to add a third star, I am tired of chasing that dream. We finally have a solid foundation and there is no reason we should spoil that. Parsons is a solid player, perhaps never will be an all star but will be that third wheel that will be a solid contributor night in and night out. I really hope that once we do get rejected that Morey focuses on building around the team we do have.
Agree especially with Dwight being in his prime and beasting in the playoffs. Time to go all out is now.
