Why are the terrific free agents still saying "no" to the a Rockets?

During the years after Yao/McGrady's departure, the team had a hard time landing top free agents and soon-to-be free agents forcing trades. We thought mostly the reason was that the roster didn't have an elite player already on it for the new star to join.

Last season, when the Rockets landed Harden and later convinced Howard to sign as a free agent, we thought that the Rockets are now a top notch destination and should be able to attract not only a star hoping to join forces with two others but also possibly ring-chasing vets.

This hasn't exactly worked out. While the team got invited to pitch Melo at least, it has not exactly been treated like a top destination.

Lowry didn't come. Melo looks to be returning to NY. Lebron and Bosh are long shots. This despite the team having (or being able to create) cap room to pay them and having two Allsstars. The team didn't even find a guy to take its Room Midlevel Exception last season and didn't land any of the post-deadline waiver guys.

Thoughts on what is going on? Is landing a top FA just a tougher job than we might have thought even for teams in good positions to land them? Are the Rockets not offering as much money to Lowry as they should/could have? Is cyberx correct about some of the top guys not exactly respecting HOU's stars? Do the free agents not like Morey? Or McHale? Or Les?

Objectively, Houston should be a great landing spot, perhaps even the best landing spot, for someone who wants a high caliber roster raound him. Whatever the team's flaws, it won 54 games and can add a big $ guy while bringing back all of the starters. Not many other teams can say this.

Even though you've been trolling I'll answer your question. I think Houston's first round exit hurt in the eyes of free agents. Yes we can see the big picture but many free agents can't. While I think Houston is the best fa destination there are a lot of people on cf that are serious homers. We haven't proven anything yet

Rockets is not a championship caliber team yet, as demonstrated from the disappointing first round run in the last playoff.

Most players on the FA markets seek stability and career development opportunity, to extend their career life and to ensure next fat contract. I doubt Rockets provide such a platform.

Rockets is a great team for young players to develop though. Over the past years, Rockets has produced numerous good to great players, most of them are doing well at Rockets, or other teams.

Beyond this though we're not supposed to be EVERY PLAYERS ideal destination. There are plenty of teams with cap room that players aren't meeting

All of the "terrific" free agents are staying with their teams this year.

Last year, the Rockets landed the only "terrific" free agent on the market.

    What exactly is your problem?

You start way too many threads. This is one of your dumbest.

Looks like Lins gonna be on the team again next year..

The reason why no free agent wants to come to houston is ISO team.

It's funny, coming from you. Harden's trade can't come soon enough for you, yet you're asking what is wrong with HOU.

    1. We have an immature, lazy and stubborn "superstar" who doesn't want to play defense. I'm sure top free agents will be more than willing to join HOU when he gets his head straight, but it's what it is for now.

    2. We have a coach who probably can't lead this team to a championship even if we add LeBron because he doesn't hold players accountable and doesn't have any authority over superstars (well, Harden mainly).

I'm sure top free agents will be more than happy to join HOU when Harden starts to show consistent effort and McHale proves he's a championship coach. Until then it's clear why Melo, LeBron, Bosh...don't want to come to Houston.

What Morey does is being watched by players and other GM's.

While I agree that Howard is a top notch superstar, that's really about it. It's not like we anymore superstars on this team. We had an atrocious performance in the first round of the playoffs, a team which was later minced by the spurs, exposing how over valued our team is as of right now, the 8th place mavs would have eaten us for lunch had we met them in the playoffs.
