He will be severely overpaid this offseason. He has great instincts and can take over a game but is not a fit and definitely a liability on D.
I like this guy as a back-up, more so than Lin to be honest. The guy is underrated as far as scoring, hustle and being relentless.
What is wrong with some of yall, some yall just wanna pounce on any player that scores a little, typical Houston fan crap. No different than Case Keenum, he escapes trouble and throws a TD an half this town wants to sign him for life. What exactly is the difference between Isiah Canan and Isiah Thomas?? Thomas is a 2 guard in a 1's body, why on earth would that ever work here????
Difference between Thomas and Canaan is talent, skill and about 17 points per game. Canaan is a project and Thomas is a proven commodity. Sadly, Canaan's strengths are more in line with the SG position. Thomas is legit PG with stats that are surprisingly comparable to Kyrie Irving last year.
Haha, no he definitely is no Zeke, but they aren't related. I thought that for a long time but it turns out he was named after him after his dad lost a bet during the Pistons - Lakers championship. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaiah_Thomas_(basketball)
Now that we have lost out on Lowry, Melo, LeBron and most likely Bosh (who is said to be very close to re-signing with the Heat).....we need to act NOW to get Thomas before it is too late. There is a reason the Celtics are trying to trade Rondo for him, as they believe he is the better player moving forward. We have more to offer at this time, but cannot do it sitting on the sidelines wasting valuable time dreaming of landing superstars who are not interested in us.
Agree, Les should just fire Morey if he fails to get Lebron here, and hire this sex offender to be our next GM.
Sex offender....wow LOFs apparently do not like the idea of us upgrading the PG position. Hate to break this to you TexasAsiaFan, but Lin is outta here and will not be back.
yep, bballbreakdown did 2 videos on this exact topic... they may have been slightly inflated, but if you expect anyone to score on that team it's Gay and Cousins, not Thomas...
Let's let the Celtics get Thomas and let's go get Rondo! Still think he is the best bet at this point for this team!
Yeah. Isaiah Thomas and Lin have pretty similar offensive stats. Isaiah's FG% of 45.3% is about 1% better than JLin, while JLin 3pt FG% is about 1% better than Isaiah (34.9%). Isaiah averages 6.0 APG and 3.0 TOV per game (Lin averages 4.1 and 2.5). Rebounding is almost identical as well; Isaiah at 2.9 RPG, JLin at 2.6). It gets even more twin/clone like via eFG% and TS%; with Isaiah at 51.0 and 57.4, respectively, while, JLin comes in at 50.8% and 57.2%. The notable differences are PPG, shot attempts, WAR, WS, and PER. Jlin averages 12.5 PPG on 9.0 shot attempts, with a WAR of 3.19, a Win Share (WS) of 4.4, and a PER of 14.3. Isaiah is much better in these categories, averaging 20 PPG on 15.2 shot attempts; a WAR of 7.17, a Win Share of 7.7, and a PER of 20.5. He takes six more shots per game than JLin, so has a bigger impact on the outcome of games (WAR, WS, PER) but their shooting efficiencies are identical. The biggest difference between is. Lin's DRPM is +0.28, ranking 17th best of the 85 PGs in the league, while Isaiah's DRPM is -1.63, ranking 47th among the 85 PGs in the league. Lin's Defensive xRAPM is +0.08, while Isaiah's defensive xRAPM is -1.94. Lins DefRtg at nba.com is 102.0 while Isaiah's is 104.8. So it just depends on which you consider more important to help the team, scoring or defense. I think defense is more important, and, once Lin's leaves, we cannot take back a worse defender; not if we want to win.
I would be fine if Morey acquired Thomas or Rondo, as they are both NBA starter quality players. The reality is that if they are traded for each other then we are once again left on the sidelines and get nothing. Starting PG is a crucial position for this team if they are to compete for a championship. Thomas could be our Parker/Lillard type player, while Rondo could bring more of a (much needed) floor general/leader type player to the team.
inflated numbers on a bad team is a good argument, but inflated stats on bad teams usually don't come with good efficiency. he's a good player on both ends. would be a great 6th man. the kings will likely match almost any offer for him though. and no team is willing to overpay this guy just yet, so i think it's a moot point. unless we work out a trade with them so they don't match, like lin/cash/picks.
I don't think Daryl wastes his time playing the offer sheet/match game this year with anyone besides Parsons.
You are absolutely right Chuck. It would have to be a sign and trade deal like Smoothie is suggesting above. We would obviously have to offer more than the Celtics, but Sacramento appears to be willing to make a deal.
