Van Gundy mum on Rockets coaching job
    Associated Press

HOUSTON - After spending two days visiting with Houston Rockets officials, former New York Knicks coach Jeff Van Gundy is noncommittal about whether he will take the Rockets' head coaching job.

"Both sides have to see if it's the right fit. You don't want to rush anything like that. So when the time comes it'll come on its own pace," Van Gundy told Houston television station KRIV on Friday.

Van Gundy said Rockets officials made him and his wife Kim feel at home in Houston.

"It was very nice. Houston is a beautiful city and the Rockets are a great organization. I had a great time," he said.

Van Gundy is also considering the head coaching job of the Washington Wizards, the station reported.

THis is such a f-cking fiasco. I'm sorry, but CD is proving to be as out of it as he seems when interviewed. Please axe him. He's a nice guy but doesn't seem to bright or smooth, and he's not much of a salesman apparently.

I don't think we'll get him. If this is true, CD has just proven again that he should rather retire.

The fact he's getting on the plane is a little worrisome.

He might not be coming back until the Wizards come to play the Rockets. :(

I think CD has done everything he possibly can to try and lure Van Gundy to Houston but the bottom line will likely come down to money in which case the finger should be pointed at Les.

if they dont get van gundy, its obvious CD is a bad GM. and Les is a cheap b*stard (what else is new?). they let LB and Silas go, now they are makin JVG slip out too. man, its so embarrassing if JVG would sign with the wizards and CD and LES go crawling to mike dunleavy.. and if dunleavy rejected the offer, who are we goin to? re-hire rudy again???

I was watching Sportcenter and they had a brief segment (about 10 seconds) on the Rockets saying that JVG is in Houston looking at homes and schools but if he turns down the job, the Rockets are going to give Mike D. a call.

Houston, welcome to your worst nightmare.

Jeff, if you get on that plane you'll regret it.
Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow. But soon, and for the rest of your life.

i think we are biggest competitor in getting JVG is his family. I don't think he'll join the Wiz, but I could see him sitting out longer to see what other opportunities appear.

    Suck.

I don't want Mike D. He seems like an great (eager) enough guy but not quite the right fit. Not to mention picking him up seems is quite the didn't-get-the-girl-I-wanted-or-her-fat-friend-so-I-took-the-slut-home approach.

But this is all retread, a million posters have been over this, some several times. In the end, this summer could be the end of Carrol Dawson. Not saying this is his fault, but we need a fall guy and Rudy's gone (badadum-dum-ching!)...

...unless Les would consider him to take over for CD (*cough*onemoreforthesuggestionbox*cough*).

Everything he had was not enough, and firing les isn't an option. I'll tell you what, if I interviewed at an organization and they had somebody who seems as out of it as Carroll does calling the shots, I would not be impressed. Sad but true.

Jumping the gun a bit, aren't we? One word seems adequate right now, PATIENCE.

    Thank you realslimshady.....

CD can only do so much, pitch so much sale.....
It's apparent that it's now down the basics.....$$$$$$$. And only Les has the ability ($$) to close this out. Believe me, CD has NOT been sitting on his hands here, but his part of the negotiations is over with, and now it's time to iron out the contract.....Les's time.

Let's be realistic, not everything Van Gundy has been saying is "hardball." The guy has lived in a place he and his wife love for close to 15 years. He's making money and enjoying broadcasting. With other options on the table, including president of operations in Washington, you don't just jump into things without taking some time to think.

If this doesn't fall through, the finger is pointed at Les, not CD.
