My point was that a guy who was saying this was the straw that broke the camel's back and he was leaving Clutchfans had been on here all of 7 months.
I'm not denying that. Just stating contractually the two cannot co-exist, hence why it would be upsetting for Lin to see his team publicly pursuing his 'replacement'.
I think I understand what you are saying but doesn't that happen every year with every free agent, and yet this is the first time I've seen the outrage from fans like this concerning a backup point guard. I'm not saying backup to discredit him, it's just if they have a chance to get Melo and it means they have to trade a backup point guard who they've been actively shopping to make room, i say do it.
Nah, Lin is probably fed up with something more than just this jersey incident. I think he is just standing up to himself and not let the Rockets walk all over him. Lin probably felt disrespected multiple times and this time he just decided to speak up.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>I don't think I've ever a GM publicly say he would have to trade 2 of his players if they were going to sign someone else...</p>— BBALLBREAKDOWN (@bballbreakdown) <a href="https://twitter.com/bballbreakdown/statuses/484563972993974272">July 3, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Disrespected in what sense? Playing badly and not living up to his deal, rendering the staff to demote him makes that disrespect?
Nobody's blaming the Rockets for looking to get Carmelo while dumping Lin. But having Carmelo wearing JLin's number on a billboard would be like if your walked in on your boss showing your office to a potential replacement employee while you were still employed and without giving you a heads up. Not that big of a deal, but the Rockets should have known better.
No idea, I aint Lin so I dont know whats going on behind the scene, but it is odd that Lin would publicly voice his opinion like that. You have to understand these public figures dont just act on impulse, Lin must have consulted with his agent before he post those tweets, and the Rockets must have gone thru marketing and PR before they decide to put those billboards on. Knowing Lin as a controversial figure, especially the bad blood between Lin and Melo, I say the Rocket's PR team did a poor job to prevent this situation. Sure, to some of us he is overeacting, but who knows. Lin although not a great player is a global icon, which his jersey and the number 7 might resemble some market or brand value. We dont know how the communication went when Lin became a backup point guard, so who knows, there maybe a history behind this.
The Rockets don't need Lin's permission to use the number, but at least tell him beforehand. Or better yet, just tell 'Melo whatever number he wants he gets, is a poster of him in a Rockets jersey really going to be the factor that makes him come to Houston? This is just an unnecessary bad look for Houston.
I don't blame Lin for being upset, or expressing his displeasure, but I don't respect the passive-aggressive use of scripture. It reminds me of people who use the phrase "I'll pray for you" like a baseball bat under the guise of grace.
He said she said who's right who's wrong.. I thought he posted once that The Rockets notified Lin or folks about it and then posted that Lin's folks said they weren't notified. Two different post saying two different things. Not one or the other being caught in a lie.
