If or when, the Rockets are unable to obtain Love, I'd also expect Morey to have been working on plans B C and D.

IMO Morey will be focusing on big two way defensive Wings/stretch bigs & pgs like Deng/Ariza/Stephenson - Frye/Hawes/Diaw/Hill - IsiahThomas/Greivis Vasquez/Jameer/SteveBlake.

Getting Deng or Frye and Jameer or Blake would IMO help the depth and fit of the team.

1. - I know he cant shoot but Rockets could definitely use his playmaking
2. - Stephenson would be a great fit IMO and gives them the toughness they need.
3. Patterson will make someone here super happy LOL & agree with your list, though for back up C's they are much more likely to get some cheap options like Okafor or jermain.

One controversial big name high price player that the Rockets could definitely get, along with perhaps a 1st rounder or two, is..... small voice... Josh Smith...

Definitely not a popular or safe choice, I know, but while it sounds risky & crazy, I think he'd be damn good on this team, especially defensively. And if the rockets could get a pick or two from Detroit to take him, it might be worth the risk.

 

Knowing Morey, he wants another max guy. This means Rondo or Love.

I would say that's a big factor in deciding what to do next, since it'll determine who still has cap room and who they chase next.

For now, hope Melo chooses Houston and try to ship Lin back to them in the deal.

I think his contract is one year too long. If the Rockets strike out this year, I truly 2016 becomes a key year for them. Howard can opt out of his contract by then. We give Parsons a deal that includes a team option at the end. With some growth in the salary cap, and we can easily be in the conversation for a certain OKC player who'll be FA then.

 

Ilysova. Guy can shoot a little bit, board, and play D. Get Johnson as your defensive wing off the bench. Then a competent backup C, resign parsons and call it an offseason.

 

Would love that, but not sure we have enough assets to trade for Rondo AND Millsap.

They probably make a run at Love or Rondo but if they gotta give up too much, they may just sign some short term deals and play the sign a max free agent game again for the next couple of years when Westbrook, Love, and Durant are all available.

If we can't manage to get one of Lebron, Melo, Bosh, Lowry, Love, Rondo, Westbrook, or Durant inside the next year, then the franchise has much bigger problems. I would say given the long term promise of this roster, a respectable city, and close to max money with no state tax, it's hard for me to imagine a scenario where we don't get at least one of those guys in the list above.
