Gosh ! He is only 25 and avg. 20pts 6 brds and 6 assists while shooting a great percentage for a guard. The guy is a leader and he and Yao combination will be a deadly 1-2 combos in years to come. Don't give me the excuse of no b-ball iq. The only people with great b-bal iq's are players that are not very athletic. I can't wait for the day when Steve and Yao brings the Rox back to the glory days
The only times you see Steve proposed in trades is when we're talking about Garnett, Kobe, Shaq, Duncan, etc.... I'm positive he's not in their tier, and anyone wouldtrade him for a player of that calibre....
I really like SF and wouldn't dream of trading him. He's a remarkable athlete but he does need to work on the mental aspects of the game. He really does need to make better decisions and pass the ball a little more. He and Cutino need to get the rest of the team involved.
This is best explained via the reverse question: Why do teams want Jason Kidd? Why do teams want a young, stud PF like Brand or O'Neal? Why do teams want Detroit's #2 pick?
Sane wrote the truth. Generally we get bored and dreamcast trades for the very best players that might, just maybe, possibly, remotely, be available in trade. To tell the truth, I'd rather trade Cuttino fora guard that can score about 15 ppg and get 5 or 6 assts (Alvin Williams, maybe) than trade Steve. Steve and Yao are the future of this team, like it or not.
I think people dislike Francis because he doesn't make his teammates better. That is what a true star does. As a point guard his job should be to get other players involved, not necessarily dribble penetration and shoot. Watch the finals: Both Duncan and Kidd, who are legit super stars that play very different positions, have one thing in common, they both pass the ball and create easy opportunities for their teammates. Steve Statistics aren't that great. Steve averaged 6 assist per game. This is not great considering the guy was runner up for most turnovers per game. That my friend isn't great statistics for a point guard let alone a super star. So, I don't believe statistics are in his favor. Reason people say Steve has Low IQ besides watching the many bone headed plays that Steve/ Mobley were infamous for on sportscenter, Steve lacks court vision, pass abilities, and over all good decision making which are what I consider essential if you want to be a point guard, let alone a super star point guard. Yeah, Steve gets his so-called statistics, which I don't believe is that good of an argument, but that isn't enough if you want to take this team to the playoffs let alone the NBA championship title.
i think people overdue on Francis's defending cababilities in defending. Monkier, how can the worst starting defender in the nba be 7th in steals Or is that list in NBA.com reversed and you have to read from the bottom of the list
He definately is not the worst starting defender in the league but he's not good. Francis has potential to be a decent defender if he can dedicate himself to it. Hopefully a defensive minded coach like JVG can make Francis utilize his quickness and become a better man to man defender. I think he can.
Because steals is more often than not lazy defense. I don't want him reaching for steals, I want him staying in front of his man so the entire defense doesn't collapse to prevent dribble penetration. Or maybe you think he is the best defender on the team. That deserves 4 of these:
I didnt say he is the best defender but defenitly not the worst defender in the league!!!!!!!!!!! That deserves 6 ove these :
You seem to use steals as the measure of defensive prowess. Steve has the most steals of all the Rockets. Anyway, if not the worst in the league, he is certainly the biggest defensive liability that the Rockets start.
no i dont, i said he was 7th in steals to proove to you he is not the worst starting defender in the league. If i was using steals as a way to measure totaly how could a defender he is than i would say Steve is the top 10 defender in the nba. But i didnt. But i do have to say People praise AI for defense just because of steals. SO you have to give some credit that Steve is the 7th best in stealing the ball. Stealing is a factor in determining how could of a defender you are.
actually steals most of the time is based on luck and how risky you are on D. Luck is because the player with the ball might inadvertantly throw away the ball and you were at the right place at the right time. Risk is because when a defender goes in and swipes the ball he's taking that risk that the ballhandler won't cross him over. I think AI is known as a good defender not only because he's always top 3 in steals, but because he plays in your face D and will put his body between the ballhandler and the basket.
Anyone who wants to trade Steve Francis is an idiot, plain and simple. All of the trades his name is in is full of star players that would never be accepted cuz of money issues and because they are pointless. The Franchise is an all-star and he is gonna lead the Rockets to a championship in the next year or two, no not 5 or more, but the next year or two, possibly three.
