If we have the MLE available, I wouldn't mind it at all. He's got all the ability, he just needs a platform to succeed.
He's always seemed solid when I've seen him play. Must have an attitude problem? What could probably enlighten us on the release.
If the MLE requires the player 3 guaranteed years, I wouldn't do it. I'd give Davis a contract similar to what Casspi got but just worth a little more.
Role player backup PF who got drafted at the 13th pick, just before Patrick Patterson. I would consider him because of our defensive needs. He is athletic and can finish at the rim.
The main reason that Ed Davis is being released is that to retain him would cost more than the grizzlies are willing to invest. I also feel that (strictly speaking) the grizzlies need that cap space to invest in a more needed position and the grizzlies feel that they have options behind zbo in Jarnel Stokes, Kosta, Luer and too a certain extent James Johnson, all of whom are less of a cap hit and all of whom fit the grizzlies style of player better than Ed does. Teams that Ed Davis would appeal to are teams that are looking for a guy that has talent as a go-to scorer and post presence, but who are willing to roll the dice on him. Some fans believe that Ed Davis isn't a come off the bench type of player and that for Ed Davis to really thrive he needs to get starter minutes, which was never going to happen in Memphis with Zach in front of him. I personally don't believe Ed is strong enough to play down low for 30 minutes a game and Ed doesn't seem to be willing to work on his game. Last year, a big deal was made about the fact that Ed refused to play in the summer league prompting some to believe that he was not committed to working on his game and getting better. Of course, Ed would like you to believe that the grizzlies held him back and that his time in toronto proves that he is a capable starter, however, if you can't learn from zbo to be better who can you learn from. Hope this helps.
Ed Davis is a punk. Idk how developed he's become because I didn't watch the Grizzlies too much last year, I just remember that dirty play on Casspi lol.
From what I've seen of him, he lacks motor. He doesn't seem to be a bad kid, more that he seems to lack grit. I watched him more at Toronto than at Memphis so thinks might have changed but set Toronto, he never seemed to play at a sustained high level. JMO but I'd pass unless he came with a sandwich.
