Yeah, yeah, this is professional sports, you gotta do what you can to win but am i the only one person who is little sad? I mean c'mon: Lin is gone (i don't like his game btw), Omer is gone, Chandler is too probably. Is it all about winning? I guess so.
This is Morey's way. Once we have our foundational pieces in place, we can all start to get comfortable. Hopefully this is the last summer like this. Until then, keep your seat belt buckled.
Lin and Chandler are far from gone. Don't let yourself get too caught up in the offseason chaos. Lin is only gone if a max player agrees to sign with us, and it's still a long shot that the Wolves would agree to our Kevin Love package.
This isn't just Morey's way. This is the way of all competent GM's. Why settle on a roster that ultimately won't win? Players come and go all the time, but the end goal, the thing that never changes, is winning. Humans are naturally sentimental. That's who we are. However, that doesn't mean we can't rise above it with logic and rationale.
I'd like to think Morey has done things a little differently than most FOs. When was the last time a team was in position to nab a superstar in three straight summers? He's our greatest asset, IMO.
Its the way it is now. There is no more loyalty is sports. With players or even fans. The days of a player sticking with a team his entire career is long gone. At their first chance, they are bolting. Fans aren't even fans of teams anymore, they are fans of players. They do some BS called "second teams". da fuq is that?
Lin I think we're going to get rid of either way, it only hurts us to keep him. Poor performance and the highest paid backup in the NBA.
Its a damn shame because I wouldn't mind having him in the 2-4 million dollar range. Unfortunately, the rest of the NBA hasn't had the (dis)pleasure of having Lin on their team and in their rotation yet so they would consider that grossly underpaid.
everyone gets traded. as long as the team plays as a team, within a system and not a bunch of individuals playing in anarchy, I will be happy. Right now though, I cringe watching this "team". It's misrepresenting the glorious red and yellow when players played for each other. If our star players can't get on the same page of the book mchale is reading or attempting to read, there is going to be a lot of agony. But it's quite clear, mchale is here to stay.
It is. I loved SF3 and Mobley (hell I liked Mobley since college), but I was still pro Tmac. I loved Cassell and Horry, but I was still pro Barkley. When you have a chance to get a superstar and/or add the correct pieces on your team to better a shot at a title. You do it and worry about feelings later.
There is a difference for a team fan in being emotional invested in a player or group of players and being emotionally attached. All team fans get emotionally invested as they watch their team and players for the team throughout the season. This is expected as long as one is human. We find things we love and then love them. That said, when this emotion makes us unable to see the bigger picture (which is winning), you become attached. I loved Lowry to death as a Rockets PG, but I will always trade him for Harden in a blink of an eye. Same went for Scola and if we lose Parsons, him as well. Having the team win always trumps keeping a fan favorite, because fans will always find new favorites.
People around here get way too attached to average players. Hell, Bob freakin' Sura would have his number retired if you left it up to CF.
When the team was first put together and I had low expectations, the team was fun to watch. They were winning and looked like they were having fun doing it. Just making the playoffs was fun because they exceeded expectations and had nothing to lose. At that point, I really liked the players and didn't want to get rid of any of them. Now that they got Dwight Howard, it was now time to win for real. That changes things. You want to win. It's not just about having fun and exceeding expectations anymore. And after this past year, it's obvious that some changes need to be made because the team isn't there yet and won't be a contender with the current roster. So now I'm ready for them to win by whatever means necessary. If that means getting rid of certain players and bringing in new ones, then so be it.
I tend to get attached to players that are drafted or develop as a rocket. My favorite players are in no particular order Dream Horry Cassell Mobley Elie Parsons Landry Yao Calvin Rudy
Sometimes it more fun to cheer for the average player. Who doesn't like underdogs winning against the elite.
