What's going to be comical about this offseason is if we end up with Kevin Love thanks to this great asset Morey acquired in the Asik trade, most people here will be disappointed we didn't get LeBron and/or Melo, even though we just acquired KEVIN FREAKING LOVE!
One minor point that you might already be aware of, but the BYC status that will affect Chandler Parsons in a sign and trade makes his outgoing salary with respect to the Rockets' end 50% of his new first year salary, but for the Wolves or any receiving team, his value will be the full value of his new contract. So for example, if Parsons signs for a first year salary of $10.92M, he will be treated as $5.46M in outgoing salary. Since they will be receiving Budinger and Shved, a combined $8.28M, the trade is legal for the Rockets, since they will be receiving 150% + 100k of $5.46M. For the Wolves, they are trading away $8.28M in salary and receiving $10.92M, which is less than 150% + 100k of $8.28M. The maximum that Parsons can sign and still be a legal sign and trade is thus $12.52M. The Rockets do have the non-guaranteed contracts of Robert Covington (technically guranteed $150k) and Josh Powell as well to match salaries.
Theoretically possible but you're not looking at it from a championship perspective. You're asking them to: 1. take a bigger paycut over time than than what I am suggesting 2. the Heat be stuck with Wade's contract in the 4th season at $12 million or so of dead money, instead of a partially guaranteed deal that is essentially a trade asset. 3. fill out the front line with a starting 4/5 that is a minimum salary player and fill out the rest of the roster (7 spots) with the room MLE, possibly the BAE, and minimum salary players. That's simply not going to cut it. And Lebron won't buy it.
And again, you're asking LeBron, Bosh, and Wade to bear all the risk. Wade won't accept being a "trade asset".....he will also want the $41 million he's owed on his current deal, plus additional income that would represent a new contract.
something like your scenario is possible if not highly unlikely. Use cap space to acquire James and then trade Parsons (sign & trade), TJones and draft picks to Minny for Love. Of course Minny would have to want to do that trade but it's possible.
What would really be interesting would be if we pulled off a trade for Love today before the draft! Then, with whatever we have left, I wonder if it would be enough to entice and included a SnT for Lebron or Melo...who would MOST CERTAINLY be happy to join a team of Howard, Love and Harden...IF it didn't cost them too much money. It would all be dependent on how much we would have to give up for Love today...ESPECIALLY IF we could keep Parsons out of the deal. Again, highly unlikely, but POSSIBLE. It's not often that we could legitimately even DREAM of scenarios like this, so I am going to explore them until the opportunities are over. lol I will be happy with 1 additional STAR. GO ROCKETS! (get Hollins or replace McHale)
We might not get him, but it's definitely not because we don't want him. You are under rating him severely.
The more teams that keep their top draft picks the more likely it is that Love may be had for a starters/mid pick package.

Such things typically more ongoing than take it/leave it. MT @manturk11: @Jonathan_Feigen rockets trade offer still on table for Minnesota?
