Amick: Rockets have moves to trade Lin and Asik

any clues on how we are dumping Lin? The only way I see it happening is being packages with any 2 of the following 3: DMo, NO future pick, Pick #25. It would such to give up that much to dump Lin, but hopefully we can get one of the elite free agents if that happens to make up for it.

 

I would agree under normal circumstances, however Asik actually WANTED out. And with the Rockets positioning to clear cap space Anyway, the Rockets had No reason to not move Asik, especially since they'll need the picks as ammunition potentially to execute a S&T for Melo and/or Lebron.

Morey is stockpiling ammo for his next big move. Moving Lin will cost a pick or young player, so Morey isn't going to even consider it until he's finished executing his moves, or they all fall flat.

And if he misses on all the big FA's, then there's no reason to move Lin right now since Lin's value in trade will increase at the mid-season and even more at the end of the season when his contract expires and he's movable through S&T or can be re-signed at market value or even potentially a minor discount if he wants to stay.

Morey values flexibility above all things. And moving Lin and missing on ALL his major FA's would crimp that significantly and potentially leave the team in a substantially worse position in terms of depth and line ups.

 

And it will be awesome to get rid of all these LOHs once Lin is free! 8)

 

According to Stein, Warrriors would take Lin with a deal for Parsons. They have nothing to offer in return though...

thats what im trying to figure out. we've got rid of asik, now we need to get rid of lin. i'm just worried nobody wants him.

Maybe LA because they can use him strictly for marketing, and they have the money, but i think this will all depend on if they can land a big start or not.

 

Morey may not even trade Lin. May not need to to get another max guy.

Rockets could trade an expiring Lin (for a pick), sign Lowry for 3-4 years at about 2-3 mil more than the 8.3 cap hit of Lin this season.

And still have 10-12 mil in cap room to mess around with.

Lin is gone with any direction Morey chooses

 

Asik's salary for cap purposes is $8.4M. The deal most likely won't by done before July 10, by which time Morey will have explored his big $ acquisition options.

By folding the Asik for pick deal into a bigger multi-team transaction, the Rockets can take back a lot of money-- up to 150% of the $8.4M-- by using Asik as an "outgoing salary" in the trade.

For example, HOU can make a 3 team deal, where they send Asik to NOP and Jones to to MIN, this will allow HOU to take back roughly $15M of salary from MIN-- which is what Kevin Love makes. Of course MIN would want more than just Jones, and such a deal would have substantial other assets going to MIN, but it works from a salary point of view and there wouldn't be a need to spend assets to get relief from Lin's cap hit.

They can do this with other big $ incoming players as well.

 

so rockets will sign Lowry for 11 mill /3 - 4 years ?

 

India, Pakistan, Turkey to name some big players. How do people not know that Asian is more than the Chinese, Koreans, Vietnamese and Japanese?

 

India and Pakistan are considered as South Asia.

China, Korea, and Japan are known as East Asia.

West Asia is more popularly known as the Middle East.

So it is understandable why someone would ask what is West Asia?

I love that. Morey is basically proving again that he can make everything happen. Not that moving Asik was hard - it was not. But it is another point on the list of moves he made.

Finding undervalued players? Check (Scola, Lowry, Asik, Dragic...). Drafting well late in the draft? Check (Brooks, Landry, Budinger, Parsons). Turning assets into better assets? Check (Lowry trade, T-Mac trace, Scola trade, Asik trade). Striking when the opportunity presents itself? Check. (Harden, poison pill contracts, Robinson). Attracting big name FA? Check. (Howard and...).

Right now any player that is serious about having a great team around him should want to play for DorkElvis. When people are saying he will have trouble to do anything (like turning his assets into a star, clearing cap room or convincing a big name FA) he just goes out and proves them wrong.
