Wouldn't be surprised if the Rockets leaked this, regardless if they have deals in place or not. By saying this it will make other teams that are interested increase their offer

Sry to be that guy... but why don't we just move Lin now? that would be great proofthat we can clear the room with Asik and how much is Lin really going to help next year?

Figure a penny a person and... holy cow, that works out well. Especially if we get to count the Indian subcontinent.

Chances are high that moving Lin will require including either a draft pick, an asset (Jones/DMo), or even both. If Morey did that and could not get James or Anthony then he just lost a serviceable point guard (AND his expiring contract) for nothing.

Gotta keep some things close to vest man.

If we don't get our third star might as well let Lin expire and keep our draft pick(s). Maybe Asik is the consolation prize to the team willing to take on Lin's salary and we aren't able to trade one without the other.

He's still valuable in the sense that he's another year more familiar with this group, and he will expire for the next great FA class of next offseason. Keeping him makes sense along with Asik if there is no acquisition that can greatly impact our chance at gold. With that being said, I don't think missing out on Melo or Bron means that we can't make other key moves that will still require moving Lin or Asik.

But we won't know if the team can improve until free agency opens at the earliest. Making moves now doesn't make sense for us without that.

Isn't it obvious that in order to make any big moves we have to move the player with the absolute worst contract on the team?

I'd rather keep asik, but i know its not possible if we want to have any kind of bench and pull in melo or lebron.

I've seem this written quite a few times and just want everyone to fully understand that both Lebron and Carmelo Anthony would be the best players on this team. With Lebron in particular he is going down as one of the top ten players of all time. Nothing 3rd about them!!

Let's also not forget that it's not like the FA class is loaded at the moment once you get past Love, Lebron and Melo.

If you can't get a serious difference maker you're making a lateral or downward move in terms of the strength of the roster and given the balloon nature of the contracts you're not going to get great value back (since the cash outlay works against the player value).

However, if you end up keeping both, you can either let them expire, OR you can re-sign them at market value/discount OR you can execute sign and trades with them to other teams AND get a commensurate player and/or picks back in the deal.

Sending out Lin or Asik as a $15M expiring will probably net you little value or require sweetener. Sending Lin or Asik to another team in a S&T at the end of the season on a market value contract will net you useful players and/or picks of some kind.

In other words, it hurts the roster to trade players away unless you KNOW that you are likely to get one of those players.

The LAST thing you want to do is trade away Asik and Lin and NOT get Love, Melo OR Lebron. Now you've given away your second rim protector (and ability to go big inside) and your only other shot creator.

As I have said before, it makes little sense to move either Lin or Asik before the team has a big name free agent deciding on Houston.

First, you want to preserve the option of using a sign and trade-- involving either 2 teams or more teams-- to acquire an outgoing free agent, thus preserving the team's full MLE and BAE. These exceptions can be very important in landing one or more critical free agent role players.

Second, if the Rockets don't land a big time free agent this summer, they are better off with Lin and Asik on their roster, and on their payroll, going into the season as oppose to having traded them for no money, and thus no player, in return. Lin and Asik are rotation players who can help the team. Moreover, their expiring contracts are helpful, maybe even critical, in the team's ability to pursue a big $ trade mid-season.

I don't know but after thinking about it for awhile this kinda sounds like they might have some doubt that they won't be able to get lebron and mello

We will know if we are getting one of LBJ/Melo on June 29th, now officially known as Judgment Day.

    It's Parsons' option day.

Houston would move them for Bosh as well, but there's not much of a sense that he's itching to leave Miami. All of it is fluid of course.

I expect when Lin is gone, all Asian fans won't have to hold back to release their anger to anything Rockets. I am ready to grab the popcorn and enjoy the show.
