Morey can probably get Afflalo for the pick that he can trade Asik for. Or Morey could probably turn Asik into something like Thad Young and a future pick.


Asik has plenty of trade value.





And here's the other thing....the deal with GS does not leave Minny with cap space to add Pau this summer. Morey can devise a deal to take back salary and Minny offer Pau a nice 3/33 or 4/45 deal.

Wow so now we can trade Asik for a top 15 pick and then use that to flip for afflalo and THEN trade him to Minnesota?

Why would they want Afflalo, a player that has already reached his ceiling, when they can get Klay who hasn't reached his ceiling yet?

And why the hell do they want Pau?

Unless Boston is waiting to try and gamble on Embiid. Or if Minnesota is waiting to see if a specific player is available at 6 (that Boston could pick for them).

Given that this is a story about what The Warriors are now willing to do, the deal discussed was almost definitely leaked by a source with The Warriors . In other words, the idea that this is the deal "being discussed" probably means this is a deal that the Warriors floated.

There is no reason to believe that The T-Wolves are seriously thinking about it until something comes out of Minnesota.

 

Bogut will hardly ever play.

2nd round team at best.

 

Curry, Martin, Iggy, Love, and Bogut would be the most injury prone team in the league.

Add to that a rookie coach and an offense that is unknown, don't be surprised if the Warriors MISS, yes I said MISS, the playoffs.

 

Not that the alternative(letting him walk) is any better but no wonder Minnesota is holding on to him.

Not because I think he should head out East or the East needing more talent(/talented teams), heh, but I would probably trade him to one of those East teams: Boston, Chicago, or Cleveland. Warriors, Nuggets and Suns, meh.

 

I agree completely. I think the Cavs offer is clearly the best and the Celtics are behind by a wide margin. After that I would put the Bulls and then finally the Rockets / Warriors / Nuggets at about even ground of what they can offer in that order.

 

Minnesota could be looking for that offer that includes a great rim protector and a potential franchise player. Pek as your starting center won't get you to the playoffs, especially if you put David Lee next to him. Rubio isn't a franchise player, dude isn't a bust, but a disappointment. His shooting is still poor and his offense is lackluster. He can't be your 2nd best player on a playoff squad.

 

This might be the one case where a clear rebuilding team is preferring veteran players to win now as opposed to picks to win later.

Technically, there should've been another case before this. But basketball reasons happened.

It does appear the Wolves want players who can help win now, but then what? What does that really accomplish? You weren't winning with Kevin Love and now you're gonna do so with these "spare parts" you get back in a trade? And then settle for being a team in the back of the lottery, so you're never quite in contention but not bad either. Oh hello mediocrity.

 

You could make the argument the Nuggets did something kind of similar with Melo. While the players they got were still relatively young and while they got draft picks- that Nuggets team was build for the playoffs. Although it was nothing like what New Orleans (originally) did.

Yeah I don't get it either. I'm against tanking, but I have no problem when a team decides to actually blow it up. Their team as currently constructed is still terrible- and they'd be trading away their best player. Not to mention, they play in the Western conference. It doesn't matter who end up getting back- they'll still suck. They need to completely blow it up. That lineup doesn't mesh at all. Pekovic can't defend. Rubio can't shoot. And the rest of the team are role players/benchwarmers.

 

Well the Rockets were able to do this.

One thing is that they get a asset back in Klay Thompson who will likely put up good numbers on a bad team, collect enough young asset like players and package them for a guy you can really build around like the Rockets did.
