I'm a 23 year old single college grad. (2002) and living in the DC area right now. I don't have a job and am looking in and around Charlotte. I don't know anyone who lives or has lived there and was wondering what the city is like.

    Young crowd??
    Cost of living??
    etc.....

Anything anyone can provide that would give me some insight into this city would be appreciated.

If you live near Murphy, NC, you could have this guy for a neighbor:

Wow, I thought you were my brotehr for a second there. Sounds like his life story (except for the girlfriend thing, whom asked HIM out in London, UK).

What are you? Communications major like my bro?

He's actually being "evicted" by my cousins' basement in a week (Takoma Park, MD).

I found that DC sucked when I was visiting last week. SO boring, and dirty. Baltimore was actually (slightly) better.

Good luck with that, DC, CHarlotte, or wherever.

Yeah bro, I just moved to Houston from eastern NC, near the Rocky Mount area. Charlotte is a young city. The drivers are pretty sane (unlike Houston!), the overall population is farely young. But don't be surprised to find a few hicks living near you!

PS: you should move down to Houston, its a wonderful place.

I actually lived in Houston for 20 years and left to go to school on the east coast and have been here ever since. I love Houston and it's the only place outside the east coast I would consider living (with the exception of Seattle). Charlotte's one of those places I've never been to, but has always intrigued me. Just curious as to what anyone who's been there thinks of the place.

Can't help you with that specific question but I live in the Greensboro/Winston-Salem area and we "supposedly" lose a lot of our young graduates to Charlotte where there must be a more robust nightlife. Something is going on.

I have lived in the Piedmont of North Carolina since 1975 after coming here for higher education.

Hey giddyup....Where'd you go to school? I'm considering coming down to Chapel Hill in a couple years for grad school but we'll see.

I live in charlotte. It is a great city to live in. The cost of living is pretty good. I am only 14 so I don't know every detail but it isn't as expencive as it would seem to be. Got any questions?

My grandpops lives in charlotte. I used to go visit him when I lived in Washington. Charlotte...it's not exactly a youthful city, but it was definitely more "cityish" than I thought. Honestly, I like it better than Durham or Raleigh. I think you'll be happy there. The women up there are nothing like compared to Houston/Galveston, but you'll manage. ;)

Charlotte is the bomb. Its my favorite city. It is very clean for an urban city. And it is pretty safe. Its up and rising, and looks to be one of the most productive cities in a about 10 yrs.
