Grasp that Vidal's probably playing at 50% right now. Guy's a beast, incredible vision, very skilled dribbling & gives it his all EVERY time he steps foot on the field. Glad he plays for my Juve.
And then in 2006 all this greatness was topped by a boring Italy team winning the world cup on penalties in a lackluster game more notable for a headbutt gifs than anything else . . . Oh wait I see what this is about now.
2 of the last 3 World Cup champions have gone out in the group stages. France in 2002 and Italy in 2010.
That italy surely was not a boring team. Francesco Totti, Del piero, prilo, just to name a few. absolute legends of the game. That Italy v Germany game to this day remains as one of the most entertaining games I have ever seen. And it was 0-0 for 119 minutes. And the final should have never gone to penalties, we should have won in regulation, 2-1 if not for an incorrectly called offside goal by luca toni. Wanna know boring? Spain 2010. Fewest goals scored by any world cup champion.
Correct. They TOO were the laughing stock at those times. I'm saying you're supposed to at least last through the group stages and out to the knockouts... at least score more than one (PENALTY KICK), MAN! France scored 0 in 2002. So... is France still the worst team to play in a World Cup after Spain's dismal performance? They still have one more game. And they lost their FIRST game! [insert GOOD RECOVERY . GIF ? ]
just to add, Italy scored the second most goals in that tournament. 12 goals scored by 10 different players. (remains a record).
good question. i think u need to take into account the squads tho. This spain team has no business being eliminated like this. Even the Italy team of 2010 was clear to see why they were eliminated. Poor squad of the old guard. No buffon or pirlo due to injury. that team was horrible, probably worst Italy of all time.
this stadium looks awful that croatia are playing on. i cant believe usa is forced two play in two humid crappy cities. there shouldnt be any soccer being played in manaus. city is too damn hot and humid.
Wow - we were so lucky. I was expecting it to be a tough game - - our weaknesses were exposed. Chile's high pressing game are going to cause us A LOT of trouble. I don't think our inexperienced defenders will be able to handle it, they're going to drown. And van Persie is out. Nevertheless, I'm a happy guy. I was expecting us to go out at the group stage so this is great. Bring on Brazil!
There's no defending Manaus, Swoly. From the location, travel distance from other host cities, insane cost overruns and lack of utility for the stadium once the World Cup leaves, the selection of Manaus as a host city is the perfect example of FIFA's inflated sense of self importance.
How are you comparing today's game with Mexico vs. Cameroon in Natal? It was raining cats and dogs, and homeboy is talking about "this stadium looks awful." Currently, the game is 28°C (82.4°F) and decreasing as night falls with 89% humidity... is that too much for you, astros123? Or is it only because it's the "usa is forced two play in two humid crappy cities"? Send a letter to FIFA, dude.
The US team has seen the stadium locations and potential weather as a positive. With a large amount of the players playing in the MLS, summer soccer is no big deal.
The goal by MANDŽUKIĆ puts Croatia ahead of Mexico +1 in total scored (after goal differential is tied at +1. Mexico is forced to get a WIN versus Croatia, unless Brazil loses by many to Cameroon... which is less probable than Mexico winning.
