Sorry to start a new thread about Kendrick, but...

    Wouldn't the pre-draft camp help him out? Are we trying to position him for our 2nd-round pick by not letting others see him?

    Perkins to skip NBA Pre-Draft Camp

    The NBA Pre-Draft Camp begins today in Chicago, but Kendrick Perkins won't be a part of it even though the University of Memphis signee was invited.

    "We will not be there," said Andre Boutte, Perkins's coach at Ozen High in Beaumont, Texas. "Kendrick's just going to do individual workouts, and that's it."

    A 6-11 center who has made himself eligible for the draft, Perkins has worked out for the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs but hasn't participated in any camps.

    Boutte said Monday that his McDonald's All-American remains open to the possibility of becoming a Tiger and still has not hired an agent.

    Perkins, who is projected to be a possible late first-round pick but probable second-round selection, has until June 19 to withdraw his name from consideration and retain his amateur status.

    "It's still up in the air," Boutte said. "I think he's just trying to see where he's positioned."

    With the spurs or Mavs drafting so late, that wouldn't be a bad gamble to draft perkins. Even Minny, or some other team that could wait for him to develop wouldn't be a bad investment like O'Neal to Portland at 22 and Harrington to Indy in the 20's also.

    Tried posting this earlier, but it got lost in cookie-land.

    If he is planning on going to college, he would have to receive an invoice from the NBA and repay all costs incurred from going to the pre-draft camp. Sounds like nothing, but remember - it's the NCAA he's dealing with.

    The same NCAA that is telling college coaches to stay away from the camp because two other high schoolers - Lang and someone else - are present. Never mind that they have already signed with agents and are ineligible, the NCAA doesn't care.

    I can imagine he's trying to save himself some trouble if he does decide to go to college instead of stay in the draft. Plus, he's probably got a better shot to show his skills in private workouts than at the predraft camp, just due to the focus on smaller players at the camp (mainly guards, small forwards, and undersized/out-of-position power forwards). I just wouldn't read too much into it...
