I read the entire thread over again, and I am now dumber because of it. He used Camby in a way to utilize his talents the most, and in his case, he had no offensive talent at all. He won't use Yao Ming like he did Marcus Camby. He coached another center, I forgot his name. He was the focal part of the offense too...I can't believe I don't remember his name. If Griffin turns into Kurt Thomas, 99% of Rocket fans would be wetting their pants. Trust me.
Mingonly, I don't think you answered my previous post, so here goes again. I assume you're a Yao-only fan by your name. Why do you think Yao will be better off with Dunleavy who tends to run fast breaking teams vs. Van Gundy who runs more half court sets. Is Yao all of sudden going to be one of the guys leading the break? Also, I think Van Gundy ran a slow down game more due to his personnel than anything else.
What ever. It's a good thing this is finally going to get finished up. We will see how Gundy will do. Hopefully it all will go well.
i totally agree with this...to win in the playoffs you have to be a dominant half court team first and foremost...but there are different kinds of half court offenses......we were a majority half court offense the past few years, but as an iso team...this cant happen any more if we are to be successful and take total advantage of our strengths....our strengths now lie with our center first and then our guards... i want a half court offense that is somewhat similar to the one that we had in our championship years, feed it inside-out through the center and allow your multi-talented guards to become compliments to yao...get spot-up shooters that will take advantage of any double or triple teams... allow steve and cuttino to then do their magic as the defense is out of position...not as an isolation... to me ugly-ball is not half court offense...ugly-ball is being inefficient on offense, like the new york was back in the van gundy years...or like detroit was this past year...you say that you dont care as long as we win... last time i checked we werent in the eastern conference and that crap will not fly here...
Like Van Gundy checks out the night life. Please, he's up all night because he's watching tape. Chris Childs, Charlie Ward, Howard Eisley, (extremely old) Mark Jackson There's a few of the PGs during JVGs term in NY...using Sprewell at PG for 5 minutes a game wasn't exactly that bad.
Rather JVG than Dunleavy. The one thing I really liked was how he seemed to stick up for his players, even getting into a fight. Well, it wasn't exactly a fight as this would imply at least something resembling an equality of the contestants, but...you know what I mean .
JVG: "Hey, Stevie, pass me those videos." Steve: "Uh, ok, here you go, coach" JVG: "not THOSE kinds of videos!" theSAGE
Infomation leaked on purpose?... Are the Rocks meeting w/MD's agent to say "going, going, ..."? Right now, I vote for neither. With JVG, it'll be return of the iso-res II.
Good news. What is interesting is that I remember everyone wishing and hoping for Van Gundy before Brown became available and after that there were all the negative threads about him. Aside from the discipline, I think VG has the touch for publicity, with his New York stay and broadcaster status. I think he is a good interview and he will get the Rockets more national publicity..
Last time I checked his team did not have the offensive talent we had. In any case, the guy did what he had to do to win and I'm sure that hasn't changed. In any case, I think you'll be eating your words just like all the Yao doubters were eating there's this year.
This has been my fear with Van Gundy. Regardless, I think he is still a good coach, so I hope the lack of offensive flow on the Knicks actually was the personnel, and not the system. If it is Van Gundy, than I'm on board and ready to kick some arse next year. If it is Dunleavy or Carlisle or someone else, the same goes - I don't see how they can become anymore painful to watch offensively anyway.
aDo you honestly want me to take time out of my day to drag up the thread from last week on gumbys radio address where he said houston is a dead town? edit:gumby didnt say dead town,my bad
They were 28th in forcing turnovers. One of the most important things that JVG will teach these players is to dive relentlessly for loose balls, poke balls loose, learn how to get more help blocks, etc. The Knicks had an obscene streak of not allowing 100 points (I forgot the specifics, but it had to be longer than a season)....I doubt the Rockets had anything close to that last year.
