How on God's green earth was there conclusive evidence that Jennings hit the bag before the ball hit the glove? Looked basically simultaneous, which isn't close to conclusive. This is the main problem I have with instant replay in MLB this year... umpires simply cannot be trusted to follow the letter of the rule. Instead of focusing on whether evidence is conclusive, they simply go with probability and what they think more likely than not happened. And honestly, if you're going to have that degree of latitude, I'd rather they just make judgment calls on the field and speed up the games.
Tampa challenged the double play (when runners were at 3rd/1st) and got the call at 1st overturned, thereby allowing the runner on 3rd to score. Complete bull****.
I fully understand every disagreement, but in my opinion, that is exactly how it should be done. Willingness to risk your challenge should grant you a re-judgment of the call.
Then at the very least, MLB needs to own that and change the written standard to reflect it. As it is, the standard can vary quite a bit from one umpire to the next and is filled with inconsistencies.
With Singleton out, Altuve out, Castro out, and Springer off, this one didn't look promising to me from the get go.
