This was what I thought last year when we got Howard. I didn't think Howard was the franchise player we needed with Asik already on board. But I thought his value as an asset would be a no-brainer for getting him. Well, the problem with this kind of thinking is, flipping assets requires time. You'd have to wait at least two seasons before the right mix of player gel enough to contend.
I'd be ecstatic. Our offense would be insane, after we gel for the first few months. I would just hope we'd be able to resign Parsons and pick up some vets/defensive role-players.
I think on paper it looks great and also think it could work realistically if you get the right players AFTER getting Melo. It depends on how Rockets build around the SuperSquad will determine success. A car can't perform well riding on 3 wheels and this case the correct role players will be the 4th tire . No relying on Donuts either lol .
All this team needed to get to the finals this year was a player who could slow down Lamarcus Aldridge from having an 'all-career' streak. If there is a player out there that can do that, go get him. But, does anyone think that player is Melo?
It does take time. Plus, constantly flipping asserts never allows a team to gel. But Howard is a huge upgrade over Asik even though the end result appears the same. He cost us nothing and now we could trade Asik for something we could use though it appears that what we are needing right now is cap space to sign another max. To me Melo is not my first choice but trading 7 cents for a dime is a no brainer.
LMA against the Knicks in two games Melo started at PF: 42% and 29% shooting, 19 and 15 points. It's actually pretty amazing how having a player that forces LMA to play defense screws up his offense, no? You know, similar to how Harden having to actually "guard" someone, and I use the term here loosely, seems to get him off his offensive game quite a bit? Think of basketball in its totality and this shouldn't even be a question.
My feelings are mixed, but Melo has improved with time. Although he is far from being an ideal fit, I will welcome him on the Rockets.

Would put the rockets over Portland. Still not going to fix the sloppy turnovers, inability to stop inbound plays.
Doesn't matter. Even If we get him is like him to be traded for Kevin love or bosh (not max) plus filler or dirk rental would be interesting. Just not a fan of his + his personality and not looking forward to hear his dumb press conf remarks. Team would accumulate too much ISO ball. I want team ball like the spurs. Plus melo here would deplete our defense. We wouldn't have a defense with him here
I really hope there's more to it. I mean Melo coming here doesn't make or break our season. Does it make us stronger? Yeah, it does. But does it make us BETTER? That's not really him to determine, I really don't think he's a Lebron or Durant to where he changes the identity of the team above McHale's flaws. I'm not one to question Murray. It's just keeping McHale really has me thinking, then adding Melo? I'm trying to understand this. I'm hoping there's some justification. As a fan, all I can do is support. I just hope we don't genuinely believe, as is, we are a top offensive team(Championship caliber), and I know we've already stated defensively we need a total revamp. I'd really like for us to get Ron Adams, and make him our specialist/associate coach.
People that pose the, "will can Melo guard these PFs", really means jack. Cause none of these PFs can guard Melo. I mean you really, really have to pick your poision. You'd have to decide to put your main D stopper on Carmelo or James Harden. In addition to that, you'd have to stretch out possibly your 4-man on to Chandler Parsons(if he remains here). That's not really a fair set up. I'd take that over worrying about how can Melo guard Dirk, how can he guard LMA. I get it, our defense is really, really, really bad. But I think we revamped structure(how we guard the floor, not so much a particular player), our defense will be fine. I still believe we should add some specialists. I'm assuming Asik and Lin are gone, with that said, if we get Melo we could do something like this. We need to make sure we still keep our honesty with some lethal 3pt shooters.
