Player and coach Rudy has stood for the Houston Rockets for 33 years. Rudy was diagnosed with bladder canceer, and yesterday
I had started a thread on another board and although some of it is dated, the part about when we are gonna get another coach is very alive. I would like your thoughts on this.

Les Alexnder decided the Rockets needed to retool, so Rudy stepped down. Who is there out there that would be interested in coaching a team in transition?

Right now the Rockets have got a couple of stars in Steve Francis and Yao Ming. Francis is better suited to SG rather than the PG he has been playing. A number of players don't fit with the direction I think the team will go. SG Cutino Mobely, good scorer, lazy defender. Mo Taylor PF, lazy defender. Eddie Griffin in his 4th year has simply not paid the dividends the team thought he would when they traded 3, yes three, first round picks in the 2000 draft, including Richard Jefferson, to the Nets for Mr underachieving Griffin. Bad, Bad trade in retrospect.

Right now the Rockets don't have a first round draft choice having traded it to the Memphis Grizzlies for previous considerations. Look for the Rockets to wheel and deal come draft time to get rid of some deadwood, and also to reaquire a first round pick. Larry Brown wanted 8 million dollars a year to coach, I don't know how much Silas wanted, but they're ancient history now. Who else is there that is an experienced coach. Will it be Van Gundy?, or Dunleavy? Its for sure they will be asking for about 3 mil less per year to coach the Rockets.

Let me know what you think.

    First....welcome.

I'm one of the dumbest on this BBS.

But I would like to say.

MOBLEY IS NOT A LAZY DEFENDER.

And he is not a great scorer.

Okay......NOBODY ON THE ROCKETS IS LAZY.

They aren't lazy. They all want to win. They just don't have a system or in Moochie's case...suck.

Mobley is one of the best defenders on the Rockets. He is not lazy. He is a team player....he is like the Craig Biggio of the Rockets....always switching positions and roles. He is arrogant....but that's what I like about him.....he's tough. Mobley helps out on defense....which he should not do...for example...leaving RAY ALLEN WIDE OPEN. Mobley is a good player...but the Rockets need a system.

As a scorer...Mobley can score...he usually uses a jab step and drives through the middle and gently lays it up. He can expand his offensive game if he wants to. Hopefully the new coach will find ways for him and Yao to interact with each other and benefit each other.

I agree...Steve should move to the 2...but...maybe not. There are some bad things about that.

NOW MO TAYLOR. Yes. He is overpaid. 8 million per year as a bench player...and didn't even play last year....and started smokin mar1juana. But he was awesome this year. He was one of the most consistent players...his jump hook was automatic and unstoppable. He was one of my favorite players to watch..and he helped the Rockets a lot..great go-to player. That doesn't mean he fits with us though....ON DEFENSE, he has good footwork and positioning and is not lazy. He is just too short! Duncan just shoots over him.....

This season was Eddie Griffin's 2nd season!

Next year will be his 3rd season. I am also very disappointed...he has personal problems. He can't shoot. He can't dribble. He can't think. He can't pass....there is still hope. Patience! Or maybe trade him....FOR KEVIN GARNETT!!!!!!!

I'm not sure what exactly you're trying to get at either, but get your facts straight. Eddie just finished playing his SECOND year and was drafted in 2001.

Personally, I'm not sold on that trade being bad, anyway. We were a donught team at the time and needed a big man, not a swingman. He's been respectable down low and is a decent shooter. Richard Jefferson still hasn't proven himself to be much more than a good finisher on the fast break, IMHO.

The point of the thread, if it has to be spelled out, is I love the Rockets, want to see them get a real Kick-Ass Coach, one that will make the team defenders better, and I want to stop the recent throwing away of draft picks and good, experienced players, by improveing the drafting, and the overall ability to find NBA type players that can step in and help the team, rather than pull it down, either with on court, or off court actions. I'll give a case in point, I believe it was again the 2000 draft, the Rockets had just made one of the dumbest, without any foundation, trades, with giving up the 3 first round picks, including Richard Jefferson, then acquire a very young, very in-experienced Eddie Griffin. You tell me in retrospect, if that wasn't a terrible deal for the Rockets. Another, 2nd rounder Nahara to Dallas for their 2nd rounder, Dan Langhy! Najarana was with Dallas in the playoffs. I don't know where the heck Langhy is, if he is even still in basketball. I know the Rockets gave up on him at the beginning of last year. These are just two of the things that have aggravated me ever since the Championship years of '94, and '95.

    *sigh*

the first round pick was not traded for future considerations. this pick was traded to the (then) vancouver grizzlies as part of the steve francis trade.

no regrets on that one, since essentially we gave up some scrubs (dickerson, carr, othella) along with the pick to get steve.

    highway robbery.

It was the 2001 draft. And yes...it was a big mistake. They didn't even workout Eddie....but Eddie was supposed to be the #1 pick and supposed to be awesome. And yes..Richard Jefferson, Jason Collins, and Brandon Armstrong are doing good. But we didn't need them at the time. And since we got Eddie....we sucked badly because of him and other injuries...and that's how we got Yao Ming! So I'm not too bad.

And Eduardo Najera for Dan Langhi....hmm.....Dan Langhi really sucks. He's with the Phoenix Suns now and I've never seen him make one shot...he jacks up 3's all day. But if Najera came to the Rockets...man...how do you know he would be like he is? The Mavericks coaching staff probably made him into the hustler...here...he wouldn't be that great...like Eddie Griffin. Richard Jefferson would not have been that good with us either LAST season. And NAJERA.....I HATE HIM. He's mean. We don't need him right now. We need a shooter.

Don't look now, but you are making my point for me. OOHH! I'm not trying to be argumentative just to flesh out a thread, I am really passionate and halfway feel Rudy's stepping down was only half of it, I don't think Carrol Dawson is as incisive with his player development activities as he used to be. He has definitely lost a few bricks out of his load.

Ijust want the Rockets to get back to their winning ways, and win Championships!! I don't like to see San Antonio and Dallas getting all the glory. When we are right neither one will be able to beat us.:D
