Hirsch seems to be a clone of Scott Elarton...maybe he can give us a couple of good seasons.
I would be happy with an Elarton type

250 at 21 though? He probably needs to control his weight. I'm thinking more Jeff Juden than Scott Elarton.

Jeff Jorgensen, 7rh rounder, went to my HS. He wasn't that good of a baseball player, and didn't play baseball for Rice until last year, when he barely played.

Amazing how quickly he climbed the ladder.

6'8" 250 is still somewhat heavy. Juden was what, 6'7" 235? Definitely husky fellas, imo.

I think the Astros and the Texans should trade picks and the Astros get Henson and the Texans get Hirsh for some O-Line help.

Brad Lidge, Roy Oswalt, Craig Biggio, Wade Miller, Morgan Ensberg, Lance Berkman, Tim Redding, Billy Wagner, Kirk Saarloos, Jeriome Robertson, Colin Porter are currently on the team as Astros draft choices. I have nothing to go on other than a feeling, but this seems like a lot.

In addition, Jason Lane would be here (albeit instead of Porter), if he was not hurt. Both Burke and Whiteside made the AA all star team this year with Burke probably the heir apparent to Kent in 2-3 years.

Well, I certainly like the make-up of these prospects. Seems like the Astros added a lot of athleticism with this group.

And, boy did they add some height to the pitching stock or what, 6'3" is as short as they come. Interesting.

Some kid named John Danks from Round Rock got picked #9 overall by the Rangers. Have you heard anything about him?

    pickin' nits: Tommy Whiteman

Which is a rather ironic name for a Native American.

I know he was a UT commitment. Gotta have nasty stuff to be picked that high.

I guess UT fans can say "Danks for the memories.":D

Living in the Round Rock area, I've followed him through the media. He's a good size southpaw...6'2", 180ish. He's got a good fastball, nasty curve and very polished.

If I remember right, his record's like 10-1, under 1.50 ERA, 150K in 75 innings.

Too bad the Stros didn't get him for a season with the Express and ship him over to the big boys.

His team is playing in the HS playoffs this weekend. So I'd guess that he'll pitch in either the semis or finals, then make his regularly scheduled start in Arlington on about Thursday next week!
