Whatever happens, I just hope it's that elusive 3rd star and not a insignificant upgrade. Otherwise, we should hold onto them another year.

Get yo defense ass mind back home where it belongs. The Rockets are all about high octaine scoring, beating scoring records and ppg not oppg. Opposing team scores 40 points this quarter, easy Rockets score 50!

No amount of stat you can pull will ever put Asik or Lin in the company of Carmelo Anthony or Kevin Love. Heck, using the RPM you stated, they don't even belong in the same company as Kyle "top 10 RPM" Lowry whom many Rockets fans want. If the Rockets can get any of them, Lin is gone as fast as Morey can speed dial Hinkie phone number.

Lebron and Bosh will likely stay together, but outside of them, we are the best option right now. We should've gone further in the PO's, no doubt, but we have the building block star players that very few teams have. OKC and Miami (considering Lebron stays) are the only other better options. GS doesn't even have one star to build on. Curry's almost there, but almost isn't enough. Rose is more injury prone than Yao was in his later years. The Spurs got lucky they didn't see us in the playoffs. Clips are on par at best, but not a better option.

We just got Dwight. Harden is a young superstar. When Lin and Asik get traded, we can afford that third scoring option Lin and Parsons were trying to be. When that load is lifted off Harden's shoulders, he'll be more of a two way player like he was in OK. We had no PG's who could dribble the ball, much less playmate and create.

Even if we don't land Melo, we can still bring in much better role players. At minimum, that will be the case. When it happens, we'll have as good of a chance as any team (including whichever ones Lebron and KD are on) to win a title.

IMO, we will win at least one ring in the next five years. I think that will even be a little disappointing. Two titles would obviously be better.

Darryl was pretty sure he'd get Omer moved at the deadline and that backfired.

Because he wanted quality in return. Right now I'm sure he wants very little in return besides cap space

Forgive my ignorance, but is it possible for the rockets to trade for Love, sign Lowry and then pick up chandlers option giving us a starting 5 of:

    Howard
    Love
    Parsons
    Harden
    Lowry

    ????

Great article Clutch. 790 AM just gave you props and pretty much discussed this article for 5 straight minutes and also mentioned Dave as being credible.

No I can't see how. Trading for love will require assets which means parsons would be gone (unless you go full Carl and trade Harden). Then there wouldn't be enough cap space to sign Lowry so a s&t would be required to do that which would require even more assets to trade.

Lebron and bosh aren't going anywhere. Lebron is playing for a four-peat and bosh isn't getting more money elsewhere. Why leave a team where you are contending every year.

He could've moved Asik then. The deal was he wanted/needed to move out both Lin and Asik...to get another deal done. What fell apart was the deal for both guys, not the deals for Asik. There were and are multiple takers for Asik.

    You are missing the point.

I think most people will agree this : the trade partners we are looking for are probably some teams going to tank or going to suck - hence its almost a certainty that if a team is going to tank, they will NOT go over the cap, but rather just try to reach the floor.

If both Lin and Asik will have usage value and they are great players, their contract will be awesome for the cap maxed team under this situation, because teams can actually save lots of tax money with these contract.

The reality is : they are not great players, not even close. You can argue all you want, Asik is a backup center in a very good team, a decent center in a playoff team, and maybe a good center in a bad team, and NO, he is not worth 15 mils in any of the teams mentioned above. You maybe able to get some minor return for him and expecting a good impact player or a high pick in this year's draft is just irrational.

Lin's situation is even worse, he is arguably at the same level of the 4-5 mils PG in this league for his last 2 years of performance in the Rockets.

So you are expecting some bad teams to take on 30 mils of payment, but only counting 16 towards their salary floor, do you really believe Asik and Lin will help the Jazz or the Buck to reach the playoff? if not, you better have something really good to send them in order for them to swallow the 14 mils of extra payment not even counting towards their floor.

Dude, you are missing the points...all of them.

You are WAY OFF on Asik's value.

The Jazz aren't aiming for the playoffs this year.

    Neither is Philly.

Utah swallowed $24 million of junk last year. $24 million of salary because they had no intention of making the playoffs and THEY HAD TO SPEND THE MONEY ANYWAY!

Sorry dude. You don't know what you're talking about.

I really hope Clutch is right and they are both gone, we can do better at those positions for the money we are paying.

    EDIT...........

    Double-checking what I had written.

    http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm

    Season

    Minimum Payroll

    Amount

    2014-15

    90% of the cap

The team payroll is not the same thing as the team salary. The team salary refers to the sum of the amounts applied to team salary, including each player's full salary (see question number 14 for a full list). The team payroll refers to the monies actually paid. For example, if a team trades a player midway through the season his salary comes off the team salary, but the money actually paid while he was a member of the team counts toward the team payroll. The team payroll also includes salaries charged to teams for players waived through the Amnesty provision (see question number 68).

So I guess a team has to meet a minimum payroll blah blah blah as opposed to meeting a minimum salary cap (so to speak)?

Ariza was a better player here than in LA. He was a role player in LA and became a legit starter in Houston. Was he a go to guy? Hell no but if we hadn't tried to turn him into Paul George he'd have been just fine.

Okafor would be a good replacement for Asik once he's traded. I would love to see hometown boy come back for a chance to win it all.

You're right that we used him wrong, or maybe he thought he was a go-to guy when he wasn't, but legit starter? He shot a career low FG% and career high Turnovers. I don't even want to know what his advanced stats were that year because I'm sure they were terrible.

Ariza couldn't do a Paul George because Ariza couldn't handle the ball.
