The reason the Rockets are still looking to make big moves is because their team is not balanced right now.

They still have Omer Asik and a lot of young guys.

They weren't expecting to rebuild so fast... or get Dwight Howard.

They have players on the team now who were not going to be part of the long-term plan. They were temporary place-holders until they could acquire better talent.

Well, they got star players way faster than they expected, and now they've got young guys who were never expected to be ready yet, and other guys who were not part of any long-term plan.

So the roster needs to be straightened out.

    http://m.bleacherreport.com/article...ade-destinations-for-jeremy-lin-and-omer-asik

I know its bleacher report but still some very good points in this article on potential landing spots if asik/Lin were packaged together. Very similar to basketballholic's write up. FYI I even saw Adam W. from CSN on a video in bleacher report talking the parsons situation with a writer

Meh. You can throw in $3m per trade. So really we can ask teams to pay $24m for $16m to go against the salary and these are far more useful players than the Warriors traded away.

$3million per year, not per trade

Don't forget that this is Texas where the taxes are far less, other than Florida.

I would really have liked to see Atlanta on that list, but I haven't looked into the recent status of Millsap and who they could package with him... ATL probably wants nothing to do with Lin's contract anyway.

I still think Atlanta should be on the list fir Asik. They have enough cap space to take in Asik. And #14 plus another future first round pick would be a fair trade for Asik but I can't see them bring interested in Lin unless they could move Teague to another team for dune other asset.

Asik is forcing his way out, and Lin is not a good fit with Harden. Morey's hands are tied. They both need to go.

The Spurs are constantly trading out, replacing the pieces who don't fit. The difference is they have an established big 3 unlike the Rockets.

Can someone explain what Parson's contract has to do with Asik/Lin? If I understand it correctly, they want to trade these two guys so they can keep CP25 and maybe bring in another big name. Right?

All of this is what leads me to believe that any incoming "star player" will be a multi team deal including Asik , Lin & whatever assets it requires to complete the deal rather than several individual deals - one for Asik , one for Lin , one for <insert star here>.
They either get their star in a trade , be it a guy with a year or more remaining (like but not limited to Love) or a sign and trade for a free agent .... Or they hang onto those assets until the trade deadline and pick up a big name at that time.

By doing so they retain their exceptions to sign players over the cap & keep Parsons.

I cant see Morey throwing away those assets if he doesn't have to not to mention the fact that by trading them in a single deal he gets more cap space with the rules allowing for 125%+100k incoming salary. Moving them in single deals he gets face value when trading them for no incoming salary.

Regarding Asik and Lin's Defensive Impact on the Rockets:
Based on statistics, Asik is a top ten defensive center. His 2013-2014 DRPM of +4.86 is sixth best in the league (according to espn.com; see http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/player/_/stat/rebounds/sort/avgRebounds/year/2013/seasontype/2. His x-RAPM DefRtg of +4.2 is also sixth best in the league this season. See http://stats-for-the-nba.appspot.com/ratings/xRAPM.html. His DefRtg at nba.com, 101.2 in 2012-2013, was 10th best in the league among starting centers via http://stats.nba.com/leaguePlayerGe...rder=ASC&Season=2012-13&StarterBench=Starters. Asik also averaged 11.7 RPG (rebounds per game) in 2012-2013 as a starter, good enough for 3rd best in the entire league via http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/player/_/stat/rebounds/sort/avgRebounds/year/2013/seasontype/2. His RPG dropped considerably this season in a backup role, for reasons we know. His offense is erratic but he is an elite defensive center, ranking top ten in every category.

Lin’s current DRPM (+0.28) ranks 18th among all PGs in the league, and 4th best among backup PGs in the league via http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/rpm/_/sort/DRPM/position/1. His DefRtg of 102.0 at nba.com ranks 12th best among all PGs in the league (http://stats.nba.com/leaguePlayerGe...NG&sortOrder=ASC&Season=2013-14&StarterBench=), and, 3rd best among all backup PGs in the league http://stats.nba.com/leaguePlayerGe...rtOrder=ASC&Season=2013-14&StarterBench=Bench The link takes you to nba.com but you will need to sort PG/SG as well as starter/bench players appropriately.

Here's the problem for Morey. Asik and Lin are valuable defenders on this team (just not at $15M per). They form the backbone of our bench and if traded should be replaced with similar or superior talent on defense. While negotiating for Melo or Love is a good thing for the Rockets, I hope and trust that Morey will find a quality backup center and a quality backup PG, if he is serious about beating the Clippers, Thunder, Spurs, and Heat. If he fails to do this, the scoring punch of a Melo or Love in the starting five will get neutralized and jeopardized by bench players that cannot defend so cannot protect the lead provided them and we will continue to struggle in the playoffs.
